About 9 months ago dh woke up with severe electric shock like pains on his hip and literally coukdnt walk witjout his leg collaosing. After about 20 minutes later it resolved, but has had experienced hip pain (but never as bad again). In his job he walk about 10 miles a day and is awake all night in pain, but he soldiers on. He had a hip xray this week and tge feedback that his hip is showing very severe osteoarthritis and the physio said total hip replacement is tge only option for him now. He has gone in the space of 10 months from nothing to totally buggered. I have googled a condition called rapid destructive hip osteoarthritis and wonder it its this - anyone got any experience?

Mine came on quickly. I went from fine one day to walking round like I was being electrocuted the next. Turns out I had an extra bit of bone on my femur that wore a hole. It would have probably never bothered me if I hadn’t danced from 8-18. This made it wear through quicker. I had a full hip replacement at 45.

My left hip went from normal to almost completely non functioning over 6 months. I had a hip replacement in 2009. The right hip is going the same way. Initially it's been niggly for about a year but it's gone into a more accelerated decline recently. I had an ultrasound guided injection on 5th November and after 3 pain free weeks it's now far worse than it's ever been. I can now hardly put my foot to the ground and can only hobble holding on to things. I've now been prescribed codeine. Waiting for a follow up MSK appointment for them to decide what to do next.

Miserable as hell, isn't it? I have hip dysplasia (only diagnosed in my 30's) and severe osteoarthritis in my hip at 50. I am at the stage of hardly being able to bear weight on my hip, use a cane where possible and have finally been referred for a hip replacement, having put it off for too many years. Can't come soon enough. In pain all the time, even just sitting in bed.

I'm sorry you're in pain too. I hope you don't have to wait too long for surgery.
