B12 low but not low enough

Hello,

Been feeling rubbish for ages, very tired, can't think straight, lots of itchy legs and pins and needles. Had blood tests and a few are 'satisfactory' but dr says they're fine in the notes. Haven't had a conversation, just notes on the app.

I can't understand them all but b12 says the range is 190 - 888. My result was 196, which is on the cusp. But could this be one of the reasons why I feel so terrible? And if so, will over the counter vitamins be enough? which one should I take? Dr doesn't seem to want to discuss, which I guess is because things are still within range, but at that low shouldn't I do something? I eat eggs and dairy nearly every day, and chicken a few times a week but red meat makes me throw up. The other results were all normal except for about three which were 'satisfactory' but I can't understand them all, and one which seemed to have no result.

The jabs are inexpensive and low risk, your body excretes any excess. That’s what my GP suggested when I was in a similar boat and it worked for me, but if it hadn’t worked then I’d have quickly ruled it out too.

I take B12 tablets and they are have worked well to get rid of my pins and needles and increase energy when my levels were borderline

That’s really low! You need injections asap. You’ll feel so much better… NHS ranges are ridiculous! In the US they treat any level below 300. Please push for tests including gastric parietal antibodies and intrinsic factor, even if you are negative you may have pernicious anemia

I was exactly the same. I had to nag/interrogate the GP as to why I felt so rubbish if all my results were within the normal range. It was only after that he said "...well, your B12 is borderline, that might be it". He suggested taking an OTC multi-B vitamin tablet for a week to see if it made a difference.

It did.

You can get very high strength Vit B12 easily, start taking it.

I was going to get the Nutrition Geeks ones, are they any good?

I got mine from the supermarket @F1ref1y. So long as it says 100% of your RDA they should be fine.
