Bowel issues- yellow poo! help

For the last week I have been having yellow loose/diarrhoea. No pain, no blood, no weight loss, no real fatigue, just getting on with my days. I went and saw the Nurse Practitioner this morning, gave a specimen had some bloods. She took BP and pulse/temp all fine.

What could this be really worried about it? I have 4 year olds with autism in nappies and an old cat so lots of poo (sorry) in my life but I try to be very clean, though it could be an infection I guess. In recent times if i have had too much fat in food I have had yellow poo but not constantly. Help really worried x

Did you have a liver panel on your blood test? Sometimes gall bladder and liver issues can cause yellow poo. It can also be from certain food and/or infection. I think, given that you said you got yellow poo in the past from high fat foods, it could be that.

Wishing you well, and I hope you get some positive and easy to treat answers.

Hi Wantom, I can't remember them all but there were general bloods, haemoglobin, coeliac, some type of protein. If it yellow is it bile? that would explain fats?

It's very possible. If your GP doesn't mention it, suggest it to them.

Yes came here to say its likely gallbladder or liver- most often gallstones. I would expect the nurse practitioner to have taken liver function bloods as they are part of a standard panel.

Poo is brown because the of the bile so lighter coloured poo can be caused by the absence of bile.

Nursemumma92 - Thanks for your reply. Gallstones without pain or discomfort in that area?

I’ve had this for many many years (20+) & just live with it, I did have my gallbladder out about 5 years ago due to pain, I don’t think it was related as I still have the symptoms you describe it is annoying and sometimes improves but I’ve learnt to live with it.

Have you been abroad? I’ve just had giardiasis, a type of food poisoning - main aspect is yellow diarrhoea. You could have picked it up here but it’s more common abroad.

finalllyyy - not been abroad no. I am finding I am having this after each meal

If it’s gallstone/liver related it usually also gives dark urine as well as light coloured stool

Poo is brown because the of the bile so lighter coloured poo can be caused by the absence of bile.

It’s the opposite really , excessive bile which is not absorbed is responsible for the yellow
