Hi

I was wondering if anyone could suggest how I should proceed. I took a sudden pain in my lower back two years ago and since then I have pain in buttock, hip, thigh, groin (all on right leg), loss of sensation in my right foot and trouble walking. I walk at the pace of a toddler and use a stick. My GP sent me to a neurologist for a lumbar MRI which didn't show up much wrong and the back team said it wasn't my lumbar spine causing the problems. I had 8 months of physio which didn't improve things. I asked for a second opinion re what is causing it and am now on an 18 month waiting list to see a spinal neurosurgeon. I have the symptoms every single day and it is grinding me down. I had never had a sore back before all this started.

I suspect that it may be pyriformis or something similar involving muscles rather than my spinal column but the GP doesn't seem to think so. Has anyone else had similar symptoms and what kind of practitioner should I see to get a diagnosis.

Thanks for reading

Aine

Is it no better at all after two years?

i had a low back spasm in august and it took about three months to resolve. I saw a chiropractor weekly then monthly then every two months, private physio who gave me exercises that I do every day, acupuncture weekly then every fortnight then monthly.

walk as much as you can. get all the help you can. My gp was sympathetic but not helpful they just give you painkillers, you have to take it on yourself. I’m now walking normally and doing yoga every day again with a new understanding of my back / hip / which muscles support movement correctly

Thanks for your post. I will see a chiropractor first to see whether they can help. Glad you got yours sorted.

I've had a similar issue for about two years. MRI didn't show anything in my hip. I was struggling to walk and using a walking pole to get me up and down stairs. Then I went to my wonderful physio with his thumbs of steel and he really keeps it under control and I can mostly walk properly now. He reckons it is my piriformis.

Thanks for your message. I think it is pyriformis or similar I have. I"m glad you have got yours under control. Best wishes.

I have had back and hip issues since giving birth. Then "snapped " my back picking my baby. I have tried physio (intermittent as can't afford weekly) and have seen 4 nhs physios who never does any work on me only diagnostic. I live in daily pain. Last time I was told this will be you the rest of your life. I am exercising to strengthen core and bits but hardly any change. Now knee has joined to form an unholy triad. It's annoying at best. Often. Depressing. I hope you get a resolution Sorry my reply isn't hopeful but I do hope yours gets resolved
