Miracle cure for plantar fasciitis ?

Is there anything that definitely helps with plantar fasciitis? I've had it since August, I've been wearing arch supports, I've been doing the recommended exercises, rubbing in voltarol. Nothing is helping. I've an appointment with physio just before Christmas, but am in holiday the week before and we'd hoped to walk around quite a lot. At the moment after ten minutes I'm in agony! Is there anything I can do or use that will help?

Massage gun with the ball shaped end, on quite a high setting and placed on the really painful bit, it hurts like hell for a while but was the only thing that cleared mine.

I've been looking on tiktok, a lot of conflicting advice though.

Just to update the thread, I saw a sports therapist today. She gave me strengthening exercises to do, work to do strengthening my toes, advised me to slowly get used to wearing barefoot trainers so my toes can have more space and recommended heat. She did say shock wave treatment may work but it's difficult to say as by the time it has worked it's possible the pain would have just cleared up on its own. She said, whilst rolling a ball under your foot may give temporary relief it won't help the foot to heal.

Time is the miracle cure. I tried almost everything, shockwave, inserts, recommended shoes, exercises. Didn’t do a thing. Eventually I gave up and got on with my life. My doc said it goes away in time and she was right. Took 10 months and now I’m fine.

Agree. - tried everything, time was what worked and it took about a year.it just faded and went away.

Crocs. Doing the exercises way more often than you think you need to.

I had pf … then fell off a stool and broke my foot in 3 places and tore the fascia where I had pf.

A boot for broken bones the opposite of what pf needs … the pod recommended these changed my life - my fascia and broken bones have healed while walking around in them.

but as other posters said you need to wear shoes with shock impact at all times including from moment you get out of bed in morning. I have indoor and outdoor pairs

Fit flops outside and crocs (not imitations) inside. Even in the shower. No bare feet ever.

Crocs are the comfiest to wear for plantar fasciitis, also the heel supports work amazingly. The only thing that got rid of mine completely was 2 steroid injections into each foot

Mounjaro. I had it for ages, absolutely nothing worked. Day 1 of injecting the lowest dose (so no weight lost yet) and it went overnight - it gets rid of all the inflammation in your body, absolute miracle drug.

I’d previously had some relief with taking everything anti-inflammatory possible, e.g. curcumin, pepper, ginger, nsaids… but it came back.

Oh wow. Interesting. I didn’t know this. I have awful inflamed hips as well as PF. I’d like to try this. I do not want or need to lose any weight but maybe a super low dose might help?

wherewillwegoto · 05/12/2025 11:01

Has anyone tried turmeric capsules? Are they a high enough dose?

Lose weight… worked for me. Had it for years, lost 4 stone, gone! As was gastric reflux…

I've been rolling a frozen bottle of water under my foot as I heard that's meant to help.

Yes this was a miracle cure for mine! I was pretty sceptical it would work too!

TroysMammy · 05/12/2025 13:43

I did the exercises, wore insoles, wore lace up shoes all the time even when going to the toilet at night, took paracetamol and ibuprofen, threw out shoes without support/flat soles (converse) bought Skechers and it went as suddenly as it came on. It took a couple of months.

Florencesndzebedee · 05/12/2025 13:47

Wear proper trainers with a heel once the pain has subsided. The only thing that cured mine was total rest for two weeks and doing the gentle stretching exercises afterwards with a band.

It really did help immediately - one of the things I have felt so much better on Mounjaro is how it removes inflammation. So I wish I could say it might help for you but if you don’t need or want to lose weight I’d say it’s probably not suitable… even on the lowest starting dose (2.5) the appetite suppression was really strong for me. Although you could try taking half doses… but that would be taking quite a powerful medication not as prescribed - plus if you don’t need to lose weight you’d probably struggle to get it prescribed as your BMI won’t be high enough, or you’d have to lie somehow… I know what it’s like with plantar fasciitis, it feels desperate, so that’s probably tempting, but my experience is that it’s pretty effective for weightloss even at low doses.

I think it’s currently being tested for all sorts of other uses. Seems it might well work to curb dopamine seeking behaviour like alcoholism or adhd among other things, plus the insulin regulation and the inflammation help. Hopefully one day we’ll have more similar drugs for different uses.

Interestingly I just went away for 6 days. Just sitting around relaxing, eating and drinking. By last day no pain at all, but 2 days home doing chores and usual activity all pain has returned. Looks like I need extended rest as my miracle cure.

Judystilldreamsofhorses · 04/01/2026 17:20

I had shockwave therapy privately which helped but didn’t cure it, then about a year later was finally seen by NHS (it took forever for the referral to reach the top of the list) and had a further course with podiatry there. I still need to watch what I wear on my feet but it’s 99.9% gone now.

Itchytights007 · 04/01/2026 17:31

Crocs with plantar insoles in them solved mine. Wore them around the house for a week and haven’t had any further problems.
