Hi
I have posted on here recently about this and some of you suggested anxiety/panic attack but I am not too sure.

I have been getting some wierd episodes at night when I am either resting or lying in bed.
It starts with feelings as though there is a surge going through my body and a sort of pressure building up in my body.
I then start to feel a weakness coming down my arms, and into my legs and feet I can also feel it in my face.
I also become aware of my heartbeat.
It has been really scaring me and I keep thinking about things like a stroke.
Has anybody any other ideas on what it could be.
I have felt under a lot of pressure of late due to ttc.
Should I go to the doctors with this.

You certainly should go to the doctors. You should get a full examination. And they will most likely tell you you are fine and there is nothing wrong with your heart etc, you should accept it, and every time you get that feeling, you should call to your mind the doctor's words ... "YOu are fine"

It does sound just like an anxiety attack, mine feel like this - the 'awareness of heartbeat' is the clue.

I think it sounds like a panic attack. Mine were just like this, the 'surge' and sense of pressure especially ring bells. It also seemed strange that something I perceived as a thought process problem should have such a physical effect.

I would go to the doctor though, they could investigae physical reasons as well as discussing panic/anxiety. There is help out there, I hope you feel better soon.

i think it's stress. your body is tryng to release pressure.

i get the same feelings with my anxiety attacks.....mine are generally triggered by bottling up emotion instead of letting it out. I've learnt to cry/scream/shout when i feel the need and it's definitely helped me to control them.

Visit your GP, mine was very understanding and helpful.

yes- we decided that last week, lol
what are you stressed over? work? home? kids? all of that?

I wouldn't bother your gp as there is a lot you can do yourself. maybe you need to try hypnotherapy, acupuncture, or some other relaxing therapy?

Do you think this is whats causing it.

definitely

Sounds like an anxiety attack to me too. I have had spells of getting similar when dropping off to sleep. I had lots when going through my marriage separation.

queenrollo · 09/06/2008 09:19

my gp gave me some low dosage tablets to help control mine. He said they were mainly to help me sleep and what they do is stop the brain from overprocessing memories and thoughts to help your brain switch off....
I had anxiety attacks years ago and dealt with them myself with relaxation techniques etc but they came back with a vengeance just after christmas and talking to my GP we realised the cause was that i have been through an emotionally rough time and the way i'd dealt with it was to just cut my emotions off and ignore them. I'd become quite coldhearted.....christmas was a huge trigger and suddenly having three months worth of undealt with emotion come to the surface was too much for me and i had some pretty big attacks. I couldn't control them with my usual methods and so took the meds.....was only on them for a few weeks, and then my gp took me off them again to see how i was and by then i'd started dealing with the emotion and can now keep my feelings of anxiety at bay with the methods i used before.

Please go and see your GP, you really need to get this under control. You will be much happier.....
