if she can show that it is 'drastically affecting her normal way of life' then she can get them done on the nhs.

eg. she cant go swimming because she is paranoid to show them off, they effect her choice of clothing and she finds shopping depressing, she cant sunbathe/doesnt want to go on holiday because of them, the pain keeps her up at night/stops her being able to walk.

i had a consultation with a plastic surgeon about stretchmarks and he told me that if they effect my every day thinking you can help off the nhs, if i was her i would ask to see another doctor.

I had my veins done last month I am 31. My veins were not absolutely dreadful but they did ache some days and I can't wear compression stockings as I have psoriasis. My GP referred me to a surgeon for their opinion and he agreed to do them for me on the NHS. Theres no reason for the GP not to refer for a surgical opinion.

slayerette · 08/06/2008 18:38

I had mine done NHS years ago (I inherited them too - got them really young - pre-pregnancy) - just told the doc that they were interfering with my quality of life due to aching all day. I'm a teacher too so lots of standing up. She referred me without any probs at all - I would get your daughter to push her GP a bit harder for a referral on the NHS.

zippitippitoes · 08/06/2008 18:39

she did say they hurt her..which they do

right i shall suggest she tries again

i think tho they might have got more strict as i was offered the opp to have mine done years ago..by the same gp actually...and got referred but i chickened out and thought i couldnt because i had too many children no chance of recovery time etc
