Unsightly warts on fingers.

I've spent £400 over 5 sessions at a clinic to get two warts removed with no success. It was a liquid applied which was meant to dry them up.
Anyone with advice what else to do, I cant afford any more outlay.

What sort of clinic have you been attending? Have they been diagnosed by an actual doctor as being bog standard warts? I ask because people usually successfully treat and get rid of warts with over the counter medication sold in chemists.

Are they on a part of your body you can show a pharmacist? If so go there first or make an appointment with your GP.

Good luck. It must have been incredibly disappointing to have spent / wasted so much money.

Have you tried apple cider vinegar and duct tape? DS had a load on his fingers and tried various methods. This worked within days. You have to suffocate them and bandage your fingers up overnight.

Biglumpycustard · 18/11/2025 09:58

I also put apple cider vinegar and duck tape on my fingers for a week. I had a quite a few.

I had one appear a couple of weeks ago, I spent a few minutes every day filing it down. It hasn’t gone completely but you can only see it you’re looking for it

Thank you.
The GP was sent a photo and said it was a viral wart. He recommended a topical agent be applied.
The clinic used Verrutop, each session was £80. They said it could take 4 or 5 so I persevered.
I'll try the other methods mentioned here.

Just save your money and leave them alone.
The will literally just disappear in time...and you will probably never get any more

WhamBamThankU · 18/11/2025 18:42

duct tape! Also works on verrucas

Sherunswithwolves · 18/11/2025 18:44

Are you in good health generally? Warts, verrucae etc are a sign of being run down. Have your vitamin D, ferritin etc checked.

TalulahJP · 18/11/2025 18:45

My gp freezes them off my back. You can buy a freezing kit yourself (for verrucas) in chemists for £7-£10 ish.

Id be wanting my money back from that private company if they said it’d work and it didn't. Dunno what your chances would be though of getting it back.

You need mega doses of folic acid.

My DD had over 30 on one hand, GP was zero help, just said they would go eventually on their own (not much comfort to a teen!) but did tell us to look on the nhs website to read up about them. It says on there that they are common if you have a folic acid deficiency. Had her tested and it was almost zero!! Big doses of folic acid and they went within 3 weeks, was miraculous.

LondonGirrrrl · 18/11/2025 18:49

Freeze them off using a boots kit. Or apply neat tee tree twice a day for a fortnight

3teens2cats · 18/11/2025 18:51

I find they go quicker if you cover them. Many swear by duct tape bur I have found a waterproof plaster works too. Remove it once a day and file away all the dead material, pop a few drops of wart treatment, let dry and then recover. I use bazuka gel. Takes less than a week.

At a private drs, they did a full blood test. Gp wouldn’t test (even though the website he directed me to said there was a link 🤷‍♀️)

Unfortunately for me it does state on the blurb that
While Verrutop is highly effective, there's no guarantee of a 100% success rate.
I suppose I fall into the 5% unsuccessful category.
I'll try the suggestions above, and will definitely keep them covered, especially as I'm in charge of all the Christmas cooking.

I had one for ages on my finger as a teenager and someone mentioned snapping a dandilon stem and putting the white substance on the wart and it worked! I can't remember how often or much I put it on but i hated having a wart so probably often! I think it went quite quickly, might just have been pure coincidence though!

Georgiepud · 18/11/2025 21:15

It's just the disappointment of spending hard earned cash for nothing that's upsetting.
