Pancreatitis worry

I have got an appointment booked with my GP on Monday. I am NOT in any pain currently and will go to A and E If that changes rapidly as I know acute pancreatitis is not to be taken lightly.

I started my first weight loss injection a week and a half ago. Since then I have had 3 occasions of a sharp pain under my left rib. It has been very mild pain, but definitely new and in the same place each time.

Last night during eating it came on again this time radiating around the area and into my back. No nausea. Lasted around 40 minutes. Again I would say actual pain level around a three more very pronounced discomfort.

This morning I can still feel it very slightly in my back but not my stomach.

Could this be pancreatitis (the beginning of chronic?) Am feeling worried.

I’ve just recovered from acute pancreatitis and it was horrible. Pain was a 10 and far, far worse than childbirth.

The symptoms you describe are similar though, with the pain radiating around to the back. I read that it helps to curl up if that helps you if the pain comes on again.

I was in hospital for 12 days and on really high pain meds even when I eventually came home. They can’t do anything for acute pancreatitis, just IV fluids and then managing the pain…

No advice but wishing you luck with the doctor on Monday and for the weekend.

Thanks. Can I ask how quickly your acute pancreatitis came on? This mild pain has been on and off for at least a week for me.

Dp had pancreatitis and they thought he was going to die. As @CrochetMadRosiesays there isn’t much they can do. He had a 1 in 2 chance of survival. I could not believe the pain he was in.

The radiating pain is also familiar. You’re right to take precautions as it’s a horrible condition. Make sure you steer clear of alcohol and fatty foods in the meantime.

@Alexasashes Mine came on as a complication after having an ERCP procedure (a bit like an endoscopy). About 2% of people who have an ERCP get acute pancreatitis and I was one of those statistics unfortunately…

Sorry I can’t help with how quickly it comes on normally. I would definitely go to A&E though if things get worse. The ambulance paramedics gave me oramorph and that did nothing for the pain. It wasn’t until I got IV morphine (and a host of other strong medication) that the pain dimmed… it took a long time to actually go completely (12 weeks on and I’m finally off the meds and feeling more like myself).
