Three weeks ago I had an unsatisfacroty Gastroenterology appt. I have been getting so fed up since as my issues are still v much ongoing, and unpleasant/uncomfortable, omeprazole was killing me, etc. (had a lot of good advice on that PPI thread).
I did an e-consult yesterday with the most epxerienced and 'nice' GP who I knew wouldn't fob me off with BS. She called me just now and she actually listened (I think she could tell how fed up I am). My calprotectin was even higher as well after my post-GI appt test (over 2000) she told me.
She said that she will send my GI a record of our conversation and she will check what biopsies were taken from the colonoscopy - put it all together to see if any answers are forthcoming - but she did say sometimes there is no specific cause found and symptoms need to be treated piecemeal. I feel that's where we are now. She said to do another h pylori stool test (even though I've done loads and taken th e treatment for it 2.5 years ago, it's always negative on stool).just to cover ourselves and she will make sure the i's are dotted and t's crossed and go from there. Obv she's not a specialist but she listened much more than any gastro I've seen and will try her best for me.
In the meantime I've been taking 10mg omeprazole which isn't doing much good, but she did say to try 10mg in evening and 10mg in morning which may be better. Sadly I think I do need meds as lifestyle changes are not a total panacea for me. i want to sleep in a bed with DH, go out for a meal and not worry about what I'm eating (obivously wont eat obviously acidic food), etc.

Have you had an endoscopy as well as a colonoscopy if you are having reflux symptoms? Barratts oesophagus etc can be (and need to be) treated

I’ve had a recent endoscopy, no Barrats. I had biopsies done.
I’ve been tested up the wazoo this year.

I take 30mg Lansoprazole a day. It is not what I would choose but I have Sphincter of Oddi Dysfunction and without it I can barely eat and am in pain.

Sometimes we have to bow to the inevitable in order to have a life.

This is my thinking atm - there comes a point where you have tried everything or a diagnosis is not forthcoming despite numerous tests and you need to control symptoms. I would’ve loved to have used diet, relaxation, lifestyle changes but it’s beyond that now.
GP said maybe 10mg in am and pm might help (am also in a med for epilepsy so need to time it ok!). I’m a joy to behold.
