2 small fibroids and a cyst - could this be why I am bloated and have hip/pelvic pain?

I'm hoping to get some advice from anyone who has had similar, but I am bloating badly and my stomach is tight, not flabby. This has been happening for over a month now. GP sent me for an internal ultrasound, found 2 small fibroids and a cyst but said that is nothing unusual and shouldn't be causing the aching pain or bloating. I've got skinny arms and legs so I know it isn't a weight issue, low-healthy BMI.

I also have pernicious anemia, which I have injections for, and have had issues breathing when I walk short distances recently which seems to have improved after taking supplements for iron and ferritin over the last few weeks. I don't know if that might be related.

GP now seems to think my hip/pelvic pain may be musculoskeletal but I can't help thinking it might still be connected to the fibroids - which do seem to be renowned for being painful? I also am not sure the bloating isn't related to the pain in the same area. Am I just being an annoying patient? I quite possibly am but if anyone else has had painful fibroids, is there any other option to shrink them or help with the pain, and does it feel like pain in the hips/pelvis?

Thanks in advance.

Multiple fibroids here. Some inside, others outside of uterus.
I have phases of the following:
pelvic pain outside of period
bloating
low iron
painful hips
reflux
constipation
frequent urination
very heavy periods
flooding
lower back ache

it’s awful, Op.

Decrease sugar, carbs and any food that brings you joy.

You have my sympathies

Thank you so much for replying! I only have 2 so I am sure you have it a lot worse, but a lot of those symptoms do sound familiar. I just wondered how the GP shrugged it off as I would have thought they'd leap at it as a reason! Thanks re the sugar, I have been craving sugar a fair bit at certain times of the month and giving in, so I will stop indulging! Is cheese OK? I love cheese...

I also keep getting what feels like a pulled muscle on the side they are, I assume that is them? Hurts for days like a literal pulled muscle would.

Re the reflux - I am so bloated I can't eat a big dinner any more, so I just have a hot meal at lunch and an apple and bit of cheese for dinner, otherwise I feel so full and sick. I said to the GP it's like I eat 1 slice of toast and can feel full for hours but have my tummy rumble, to tell me I am hungry. So weird.

How old are you, Op?

The thing is, most GPs (I’ve even heard this from a consultant) will say that fibroids don’t cause pain. This is the biggest load of nonsense and makes me so incredibly cross.

This then puts you into a blind panic before ultrasounds and an MRI confirm that you really do ‘only’ have fibroids.

Like you, I do also get a bit uncomfortable in my side occasionally.

I think we quite naturally question whether they can really be attributed to all of these symptoms, given that they can often be quite small. I can say with certainty that they absolutely can.

I do seek medical attention when I feel as though my symptoms change/become worse because I worry that I will attribute everything to fibroids when really there could be an additional issue at play. For example, a polyp that I didn’t know I had needed to be removed last winter.

I bloody love cheese and I haven’t given it up.

Try your best to eat as well as you can and get plenty of exercise.

They won’t shrink until menopause and consultants won’t tend to intervene unless your symptoms are ‘severe’

I'm 45 and have also just started HRT last week for peri, so I am hoping they will make something change, hopefully for the better!

Thank you for being so kind. I was honestly thinking "aren't they meant to be a thing?" when she said "just 2 fibroids" then moved on like it was nothing. I know it's not a huge amount but I know it is where she was looking that I can feel the pain. It kicks in on the hips and lower back most when I walk, especially uphill.

So glad I don't have to give up cheese. I stopped drinking and smoking last year and I don't think I can give up any more! I will cut out the sugar though. Dd will be thrilled as she'll get all the Maoams now...
