Hi all - ive got Trichophyton Rubram on my nail, and Ive been using scholl fungal nail treatment 3.8 ml. Although the black part has gone down the crust is still there. Has anyone found something that works to get rid of this or to get rid of the crust?
Thanks

Has a really bad toe nail a few years ago, tried loads of otc treatments and it just got worse, lost the nail twice and it kept coming back and also seemed to be in the nail bed. The doctor prescribed me Terbinafine which I had to take for 6 months. During which I couldn't drink alcohol and had to have liver function tests to keep an eye on my liver.

The only thing that worked for me was the Terbinafine tablets prescribed from the GP, I had to take them for quite a while but it was totally worth it.

Listen to this. Radio 4 so not social media fake rubbish. It has a couple of experts explaining why nail fungus is so difficult to treat.. https://www.bbc.co.uk/sounds/play/m002kq34?partner=uk.co.bbc&origin=share-mobile

Terbinafine is the only thing that has worked for my son and we have tried everything else for years.

Ive been treating mine with keeping clean and dry, wearing my crocs 95% of the time with no socks so Im getting the air to the toes and applying canasten . Keeping the nail short and filing the thickness back is working. But I know it will take months

I read here years and years ago, Vicks Vapor rub. Worked for me.

CynonEileen · 11/11/2025 23:12

Tea-tree ointment

elenaf · 11/11/2025 23:14

I tried so many things for so many years. Only Terbinafine worked. I took it for about 5 months, I think.

I was very sad when I heard this program a couple of months ago. I so wish they had said that vaporub would so the trick

RescueMeFromThisSilliness · 11/11/2025 23:24

I had some success with tea tree oil twice a day and a weekly soak in a bowl of water with some surgical spirit.

Myoldbones · 11/11/2025 23:38

I tried everything then a doctor said to try Excilor and it is working, been using it three weeks and noticed a major difference. I bought it on Amazon.

NippyNinjaCrab · 12/11/2025 18:48

My DH is using tea tree oil once a day and its slowly working. Taking ages though and a lot of filing trimming yuck. His are very very bad though. X

Is that the white paint on one? I had a wee bit starting on my big toe and it cleared it x

Listened to this earlier. Quite depressing that even if you use the drugs, there's a 70% chance of it returning. You're either prone to it or not and you need to smother your feet in athlete's foot preparations regularly to prevent getting it again.
