My hayfever has gone absolutely mad today. Why?

I've had no symptoms this year so far. I took the kids to the park this morning and WHAM! My eyes are swollen and unbearably itchy, I'm sneezing like a fiend.

Is there some specific pollen thing at the moment?

Any tips about medication to make me more comfortable?

DS has it too. He also has Type one diabetes and conjunctivitis so he's feeling treble hard done by.

my hay fever has only just started in the last couple of days, not too bad so far
my main allergy is grass pollen I think
I don't normally take anything unless it gets really bad, if it does get bad I sometimes take clarytin tablets
I hate the itchy eye thing, it's the worst! I would bathe them in some soothing eyewash stuff (Optrex?)

Ah thank you beetroot. I like the look of chocolateteapot's comedy nasal machine. Might give it a go.

beconase spray is great for symptomatic relief. It says in the packet to take it every day, but I just wait til I am all scratchy and sneezy, have a spray each side and it really helps
My Dad swears by local honey, the idea being that the pollen in it will de-sensitise you.
He has been taking a spoonful every day for months, and his hay fever has only been bad when he has travelled away from home hmm making me think...

Whitetulips I've heard of the honey theory and will pursue it. But I think I'll get the serious drugs as a back up this week because I'm working. I wonder how often you have to eat the honey? Probably all year round to desensitise.

I'm going to get the amusing nasal contraption too just for comedy value so will be attacking it on all fronts.

I always do this then can never be sure which method actually worked.

I get terrible hayfever (it started again in full force yesterday) and find that I can usually keep it at bay with regular spoonfuls of local honey. But it only works for a week or so and then I need heavy meds to keep from getting asthma and needing to use an inhaler.

Which is worse, antihistimines or a cortizone based asthma inahler? Anyone with any insights?

Forgot to add, I'm 27 weeks pregnant!

Just tried acupuncture. Will let you know if it works...

the pollen count is through the roof at the mo I think
I have gone down the antihistamine and beconase route, and am still sneezing and have a sore throat.
Oh the joys of being allergic to the English summer!!
