Just sat here bored with DP we entered the hospital 32 hours ago and no mention of a bed on a ward yet. Just wondering what your experiences were.

It will massively vary depending on the hospital. Sunday night in my trust, unlikely to get a bed until mid morning tomorrow as we don’t tend to discharge after 9pm, but we have poor transport. Other trusts may well discharge later into the night. Beds are crazy full right now - very early for winter pressures so we’re worried.

As a frequent flyer, the best recently has been 11 hours other than that, it's been 28, 36 and 39. Ours seem move people in the middle of the night as the corridors are quiet- normally around 1-2 am. I hope you're not waiting too much longer Flowers

Recent experience with my mum was 24 hours to get a bed. As others have said Sunday night is generally not a good night to get a bed as it is more difficult to discharge patients at a weekend - transport not as available and not as easy to get care packages implemented over a weekend.

There are no spare beds anymore so you are waiting for other people to be discharged. For example, DH was told on Friday morning that he needed to stay in till Monday. Two hours later a different doctor came along and said they were giving him tablets instead of intra venous anti-biotics and he could go home. They needed a bed in a male room. The catch is that we were told that before someone else moves in, the walls, floor, locker and bed have to be cleaned and that can take up to three hours.

36 hours last week when I had to go in.

In case anyone sees this in future and wondered it was 38 hours

I was hospitalised this summer. I only had to wait about 6 hours for a bed and most of that time was spent having tests
