Tooth root/bone fracture - need fixed bridge - any advice?

I have a very old root filling and post crown of my front incisor that started felling "funny" at the weekend - didn't look a lot different but the crown was very slightly sticking out and it really hurt to bite on it.

Went to the emergency dentist and he discovered the root and surrounding bone is fractured and the whole thing needs to be removed and the dentist recommended a fixed bridge attached to the adjacent teeth.

Has anyone had this done? Or know anyone who has?

Is the dental work really painful? Will I be able to eat?

Thanks

I have this, the wings of the bridge are fixed to the back of the neighbouring teeth. No pain, doesn't involve any work to the teeth other than bonding. There are variations of this bridge and it is one of my front teeth that has the bridge. If you take care, lasts for years and yes, you can eat.

I have had to have lots of dentistry due to a bridge failure where the attached teeth broke down which is apparently a problem with bridges and my dentist said he would never recommend one again . When my teeth broke down holding the bridge I lost 3 teeth overnight and have never felt do awful . I would recommend implants . Yes they are pricey but well worth it . My advice would be get a second opinion on the bridge option

TBF to the dentist we did discuss tooth implants but he had some reservations because of the nature of the fracture - both the root and surrounding bone under the gums have fractured and he was unsure whether the bone was strong enough to support the titanium screw for an implant. The original root canal is very old as it was done after an accident in the early 1970s.

The dentist has been very reliable and not recommended things that I don't need - but I feel nervous .....

The cost is also an issue as I am not in the UK and dental care in Sweden is brilliant by very expensive - it will cost me £1,400 and that is after deducting the £600 that the Swedish NHS's contribution!
