Has anyone had a stroke at a relatively young age eg under 50? I’m in the early stages of recovery but would appreciate hearing some good news outcomes , or solidarity of how hard it is in reality!

My husband had one at 38. He spent 11 days in hospital and wasn't allowed to drive for six weeks. Physically fine, a few memory issues and underlying issues were discovered whilst investigating the cause. Wishing you a speedy recovery!

It’s very very much dependent on the damaged caused/severity.

you need to practice practice the things you now find difficult

Everyone forgets I had one, it’s impacted my memory and my tolerance and tiredness levels.

@RandomMess how long ago was yours? How did you manage anxiety?

So sorry to hear this! My brother had a major one last week, in his 40s. It's been horrendous but I have to say the progress in one week has been incredible. Wishing you all the very very best op x

Anxiety about what?

I wouldn't say his mental health has changed much since the stroke. He did go on a health boost after it and started walking more, which might have helped. We had a 6 week old at the time (who is now 3.5 years) so I think that boosted him to lead a more healthy lifestyle. He does get tired more easily, and can be forgetful but he wasn't impacted physically and didn't need any speech therapy or anything which was lucky. A friend of ours had one at a similar age and he was effected much differently with paralysis and loss of speech etc, so his recovery has been much slower. Like a pp has said, it can effect people very differently. We were lucky with husband as I spotted the signs very quickly, and the ambulance was with us within 8 minutes and they didn't hang around before whisking him away to a local hospital.
