Anyone know what this is? Thought I had a Stye ( though not had one in 30 years) but skin below has started to swell towards cheek and looking inside the eye lid it looks like an ulcer ? Weird
a hit itchy but not painful
do I need HP appointment or just a weird stye that’ll sort talk with time
Sorry pics aren’t focused as phone not playing ball 🙄

I would get it checked by the optician.

maras2 · 29/10/2025 09:49

Looks like cholesterol deposits but these are usually outside the sclera, on the lower or upper eyelid.
Best see doctor or optician.
Hope you're ok Mx.

I'd say pharmacy first. It looks sore.

MigGirl · 29/10/2025 09:53

Good first stop for this would be a pharmacy, they can give certain eye drops or recommend if you need to see a doctor.

Not chloserstrol. Had a friend with those years ago. They don’t cause inflammation or make eye go red.

under eye has swollen up, red , and then this ulcer thing

Thanks all .went to pharmacist . He wasn’t sure 🙄 as agreed didn’t look like Stye. He recommended antibiotic eye cream otc. Try for 5 days. No improvement after 3 go to Gp.

Could it be a cold sore or shingles? I would see a Dr or optician ASAP. Better to dismissed as nothing than to ignore it and impact your sight.

Not sore as such. Itchy because of swelling below the eye, and then just feels like got something in my eye
trying to be very good and not rub 😱🥴
thanks

Hi Op, Could be a chazlion. My child gets them occasionally and at the start there is always swelling and look like yours. They are painless and harmless although can grow quite large. Hot compress a couple of times a day should help because they are essentially block oil glands.

NoRoseTintedGlasses · 29/10/2025 23:09

I used to get these wicked things when I wore monthly contact lenses. Was prone to styes too. Chloramphenicol (antibiotics eye drops/ointment) sorted it out for me

I’ve never had history of cold sores, I’m mid sixties. Shingles? No pain , and no exposure to chicken pox I know of…but I’ll keep it in mind

Looks like an internal hordeolum which is a type of stye:

https://my.clevelandclinic.org/health/diseases/24478-internal-stye

Edited

It’s the ulcer like depression in middle that I’ve never seen on Stye.
It’d make sense it was a Stye like thing, just on inside..,but the hole in middle worried me more

I’m just on day 2 of the otc antibiotic eye cream, external swelling on face is going down, no real change of the internal Stye thingy . But I need to wait another 24 hours for antibiotics . If not healing the open ulcers bit by Saturday I’ll pop into my optician next for their view, and maybe GP if needed on Monday,

I'd say it's a chalazion. Not bacterial but often itchy and irritating and the swelling can cause a feeling of pressure. Best thing for it is warm compresses and preventative lid hygiene to stop the oil gland getting blocked in future.

Whichpartyoutfit · 31/10/2025 23:15

A hot bath, a massage with a warm flannel and it will more than likely pop.

Friendlyfart · 01/11/2025 07:45

I had an internal stye on my upper eyelid and it took ages to go. Kept popping and reappearing. I think it’s finally gone now but it started in August. Also used the chloramphenicol.
