Have you had any contact from your GP re: a consultation with a representative of Astra Zeneca to speak about medications?

My surgery has contacted me repeatedly asking me to make time to speak with an ‘independent pharmacist’ who is aligned somehow to Astra Zeneca to do a medication review with me.

It is in the form of a phone call and the pharmacist apparently has no access to my private notes or medication details.

The first time I was sent it I just chucked the letter in the bin as it seemed like a cheap way for AZ to be using people for
research. But the surgery has contacted me for a 4th time today suggesting that the call might be beneficial to me.

Has anyone else had anything like this please? It’s sitting really uncomfortably with me but I’m fascinated to know what it’s all about.

I've not had anything about AZ.

I do get a medication review occasionally, maybe annually where I sit down with the pharmacist and check I know what my meds do, that I am taking them correctly etc.

Thanks for replying. Yes I’ve had a similar review with the practice nurse previously too. I suppose the only way I’ll find out what it’s about is to go to the appointment!

Our surgeries annual asthma reviews are done this way.
Az just fund them I think.

That’s interesting @sashh- my concern was that they’d try to change you in to AZ medications. Have you encountered that at all? It just seemed odd that they supposedly can’t see your medical record but can still advise you on meds.

Do you know who supplies your medications now? Because I couldn't tell you if mine are AZ or not! I assume they are but AZ will be selling the pharmacy generic meds.

I think in the asthma case, the asthma checks are just outsourced to them.

I had similar for my migraine medication.

I think you are reading to much into this. You don't have to change medication if it's working for you..

@DancefloorAcrobatics agreed.

Thanks everyone. I’m reassured that other surgeries use a similar model for various conditions. I’m on Metformin at the moment which is working fine and is supplied as a generic as it’s such a standard med so I’m not interested in changing really. I’ll let them know.
