dd has always had some and up till now I've just ignored it. Tonight when I was brushing her hair I noticed it is much much worse.

Is there anything I can do to get rid of it and stop it from coming back????

Dentinox from boots (I think)
my DD(4) and DS (6) are susceptible to cradle cap so I just use this regularly.
it works!

can I get that over the counter mm?

Yep, or in the supermarket.

it smells disgusting but it does work
for DD I then use conditioner on her hair for tangles.
I hate cradle cap

my admission to lack of understanding is....when DS was born, HV told me to rub olive oil on the cradle cap...unfortunately failed to tell me to wash it off so the next day it looked terrible

Tiggerish · 05/06/2008 20:47

thanks for that - I'll get some at the w/e

do you know what causes it?

Just found this on internet....my DS suffers with mild eczema so maybe thats why he still gets it. It's NOT poor hygiene so thats a relief

The cause of cradle cap is not clear, although it may be linked to over-active sebaceous glands, which produce sebum (oil) in the skin.

It is thought that some babies retain some of their mother's hormones in their bodies for several weeks or months after the birth. It is believed that these hormones make the glands more active so that they produce more sebum.

The excess sebum causes old skin cells to stick to the scalp, instead of drying up and falling off as they would normally do.

Cradle cap is not contagious. If a baby has cradle cap, it does not mean that the child has an infection or is not being looked after properly.

Research has found that babies who get cradle cap often have family members with allergy type conditions, such as asthma and eczema.

There is also a possibility that a child who has cradle cap may have other types of seborrhoeic dermatitis such as dandruff, when they are older.

My dd still has cradle cap (although she is 14 months still). The best thing we find is a nit comb!
I wash her hair in dentinox shampoo, then use baby conditioner and comb it out. It really really helps.

My dd2 is 4 and still gets it. She has really 'baby' hair still, all fluffy and fine, and I tend to think they are linked.

I rub olive oil in at night and then wash in the morning about 3x a week and that helps. Realised when reading these posts that the nit comb (when dd1 caught headlice and we all got treated) did make a difference - caught all the flakes!

Dunno if the oil stop s it from coming back, but does get rid.
