Green veg is suddenly tasting very bitter and wrong.

I generally like green veg like broccoli, brussel sprouts, cabbage and spinach but in the last fortnight it has suddenly started to taste very bitter and I'm finding it hard to eat any green veg. DH hasn't noticed any difference so I think it's me and not the veg.

Could this be a vitamin or mineral deficiency? If so what should I eat or what supplement could I take?

Agree with BlueDragonfly - time for a PG test!

other than that - is it all in season? (i dunno about seasons unless i am looking at my little list) could taste different because its out of season or imported or erm...no sorry but you must be pregnant

bran · 05/06/2008 13:21

No, LOL, definitely not preg.

In fact I was just thinking about starting a thread asking who it was who sold Mooncups cheaply (is it you F&Z) as I needed mine today but I think I left it in Amsterdam when visiting DH. I had been thinking about getting a second one so as to have one for the washbag and one for home. I was going to have a thread title along the lines of "Bloody Pants! I can't find my Mooncup".

don't know what causes it but i've never been able to eat green veg for the same reason.

always just presumed it was just psychological, didn't even occur to me it could just suddenly develope in someone who generally likes veg.

according to this though it's all down to certain receptors being stimulated by the foods.... receptors that weren't working before must have kicked in for you.

either that or your dh has no taste buds and the veg where you are has suddenly gotten even worse tasting

bran · 05/06/2008 13:23

BD, I originally thought it must be the veg itself, but I couldn't eat frozen button brussels from the same bag that was fine a few weeks ago.

I used to bran, but bodykind (see website) do them at a very good price now so it didn't really save any money getting them via me

you must have a phantom pg then

bran · 05/06/2008 14:32

Thanks F&Z, I might try a Femmecup from that site to see if it's any better/worse than a Mooncup.

I've just asked a rl friend of mine, and she thinks that with me suddenly turning into a gym bunny it might be either a zinc or manganese (sp?) deficiency. So I'm going to try a course of multi-vits and minerals to see if it helps.

Have you had a cold or sinusitis in the past 2 months? That can temporarily affect your senses of taste and smell.

bran · 06/06/2008 08:43

No, I haven't really been ill recently. Just the usual hayfever.

Hopefully it will sort itself out soon, because I really miss the taste of leafy veg.
