Broken wrist - how long in plaster?

Just so that I can prepare myself for the worst, does anyone have any idea how long a 7 year old with a broken wrist is likely to be in plaster? They were very cagey at the hospital and we're going to the fracture clinic tomorrow. It's a Salter-Harris ii fracture -(I googled it and wish I hadn't!) but it didn't need to be pinned. TIA

Oh no how did he/she break it?

My ds broke his wrist last summer and he had to be pinned. He had his temp cast on for 5 days after the op then gor a fibre glass one which was on for 5 weeks.

Young bones heal very quickly.

Hope they are not suffering too much.

Thank you. He did a spectacular Evil Kenevil stunt on his bike. I wasn't there so his poor old dad had to deal with it (and the even more spectacular bashed nose and lip) and with the overnight in the hospital and the consultant talking about damage to the growth plate and possible deformity and bone growth problems... I got there the next morning in time to be told that it wasn't as bad as they had first thought and not to panic!

Ds is fine - dp is still a gibbering wreck!

6 weekss isn't too bad - with a bit of luck it'll be off before the summer holidays.

You're not due to fly anywhere are you?

My ds was fine too, and funnily enough he was with dh when it happenned and not me. It shook my dh up more than ds!

One of those plastic seal things is a good buy so he can go in the bath.

OK - just back from the fracture clinic - and apparantly there is "still significant displacement" and they are going to ring me in the morning after the case conference. Bum. Bum.Bum. Does this mean that they are going to have to pin it, does anyone know?

age 7, probably wouldn't pin, just manipulate.

if they're discussing it, chances are, you saw a junior dco, who can't make a decision!

Good luck!

No - consultant. Can they manipulate it again a week after the accident? Won't it have started to heal by now?
