Immune system support

I'd like to boost my immune system, as I'm really struggling with a virus at the moment.
I currently work from home and don't mix much with other people. I do pilates/swimming a couple of times a week. I'm a post-menopausal woman.
I'm going to try to get outside during the day more regularly, and mix more with other people. I'm going to get better at drinking kefir. I'm going to pay for flu/COVID jabs privately.

What else can I try?

What is your diet like ? Do you eat healthily ?

SmokyForTheWin · 15/10/2025 15:08

Yes, I would say so. Plenty of fruit & veg. Meat a couple of times a week. No snacks. Plenty of fibre.

Echinacea drops, elderberry syrup, vitamin c and zinc supplements, probiotics

healthy diet is also important

Sambucol! I swear by it :) my little one and partner have just been unwell for the past 2 weeks, I have the immune system of a newborn and I never caught it from them! So many people have recommended it to me

lots of healthy green veg, healthy fats
good, restorative sleep
gentle outdoor exercise, daily walk
Lots and lots of water
daily hot shower finishing with cold water

indoor temperature as low as I can bear, avoid sitting for too long, run up and down the stairs if I start to feel cold

Do also occasionally do a fortnight course of tsp echinacea daily from a reputable source. Occasionally sip elderberry , ginger or rosehip tea

if I get a sore throat possible cold symptoms, first thing in the morning, swallow a crushed clove of raw garlic with a glass of water chaser: feel those sinuses drying up.

Rigorously avoid sugar in any form, the way an alcoholic has to avoid alcohol

those sorts of things. Elderly DH is permanently ill with something or other, I’m very deliberate about avoiding that fate. It’s no way to live in older years.

Some good ideas thanks. My sleep isn't great but I'm not sure how to fix that. I definitely need to increase my leafy greens and I'll give sambucol a try.
