Colonoscopy - sedation or not?

I have to have a colonoscopy next week. It's in the morning. The only problem is that I have an event I absolutely have to attend in the evening. It would be near home and I wouldn't need to drive there, but I just can't miss it.
I initially thought I would definitely have sedation, but now I'm worried that I'll be feeling rough later on if I do?
They've obviously said I can have gas and air if not.

I'm not really worried about pain but I realise that it might end up being very painful. I'm also worried about what I might say when I'm sedated (I don't know why I have this but I would be so embarrassed if I started going on about my personal life or something - does it have that effect or not I have no idea?)

What would you do in my situation?

When is your scope???? I'm Monday and still eating normally. Had a bit bowl of muesli and bran sticks for breakfast!

Is the diet dependent on the prep I wonder. I have Plenvu. Mango and Fruit Punch flavour I think 😟

Yes it does.

My first one was just take the prep the day before and then something in the morning and I was in tears trying to get the stuff down.

For the second one I had 'extended prep' which is the low residue diet for a week with senna pills and I can't remember the second drug.

Then the prep on the last day.

It is also possible that different hospitals have different protocols so everyone should stick to their individual instructions.

Hi everyone, I had the colonoscopy this morning and got the all clear - absolutely nothing there!
For anyone who might come across this thread in the future:
The prep was nowhere near as bad as I thought it would be (taste wise) which probably says more about some of the horrible things I've chugged in my lifetime. I didn't have any trouble drinking it at all. It did however make me feel worse than I was expecting - very cold and quite sick. Lots of cramping as well which made me feel like I had a tummy bug. I took the first lot at 5pm and nothing happened, as soon as I started the second lot at 8 it started. I didn't find it too bad and didn't get sore, but I don't think there was much to clear as I'd not eaten much in the previous day.
I had some sleep but bowel movements continued through the night for me, and until this morning.
I got there and went straight in. I last minute changed my mind and went for gas and air. The Dr told me I have suspected endo (why I ended up here in the first place) then I'd probably find it painful. It was ok apart from the corners, which I found very painful. I had gas and air but could have done with a bit more warning as I didn't always have time to get 'high' enough for it not to hurt. I had to hold the nurses hand at times. It was done in 10 minutes though and I had a cuppa left straight away.
I could manage it again but I would definitely take the sedation if I didn't have somewhere to be later on. The nurse told me weekend appointments tend to be more gas and air as people often have plans.
I had to have a colonoscopy because of a change in bowel movements (which I and Dr thought could be endo) and very high FIT test result. But I've been worried sick in the last fortnight that my symptoms also could be bowel cancer so I'm feeling very relieved today.
Thanks all for your advice and experiences!

Oh that's great news for you. Congratulations and well done on getting through it without sedation. You must be so relieved too.

Hope your event goes well tonight.

My prep is tomorrow. Can't wait!!!
