One of the mums from DS1 school is going into hospital for a major operation. I don't know her really well but she is lovely and I thought about getting her a pressie. What would you suggest in the £10-20 bracket?

nice moisturiser. the air con in hospitals is very drying.
or an easy to read type chick lit book.

waffletrees · 03/06/2008 22:31

Good idea Nigella, I think might get a selection of bits and bobs and pop it in a nice gift bag. She seems quite intellectual but I tought she might be so bored that some trashy magazines might be good.

Book token?

A spray of some kind

I've just had a hospital stay and was really glad of this aromatherapy mist stuff. It was cooling and smelled lovely.

thetoothlessfairy · 03/06/2008 22:33

What's she having done? If she's gojng to be left immobile, that would make a difference to gift suggestions

waffletrees · 03/06/2008 22:34

She is going in on Monday and has a ton of stuff to organise so might not have time to get to book shop. I am such a twat, I should have organised this weeks ago.

She is having a mastectomy (yes, the dreaded breast cancer). I think she will be immoblie for a good few days. She is under 30 and very trendy.

lavender oil - v good to help sleep. or frankinsence - good for anxiety.
and ear plugs and a sleep mask.

cocolepew · 03/06/2008 22:37

Moisturiser, wipes, M & S soap, shower gel etc. Maybe you could pay for her to have a t.v. if the hospital offers this service.

thetoothlessfairy · 03/06/2008 22:41

Yeah, something to make the place smell nice. Or just something nice to eat, fruit or chocolates. Sounds a bit dull, but she'll not be getting anything good from hospital catering

lisad123 · 03/06/2008 22:44

A good book and some juice to add to water. Having spent 3 weeks in a few month back, that water get warm and horrible, juice is life safer.
Good Idea about the TV too

waffletrees · 03/06/2008 22:49

Oh, thank you for the good ideas. I have also offered practical help (babysitting etc). I just feel so awful for her. She has had a shit year and now this.

I can recommend Burts Bees handcream, it smells divine and is natural and you can get it in Boots.

Or how about a personal CD player and some story CD's? Or an IPOD to borrow with loads of podcasts and music on it?
