moving from Amlodipine to Ramipril

My dentist suggested that amlodipine could be causing gum problems, Dr agreed and has changed my prescription to Ramipril. (both are to treat hyper-tension).
Has anyone any experience of this, any problems?

I couldn't tolerate Amlodipine, well, I couldn't tolerate the swollen ankles/legs.

On Ramipril for some years now, dose increase made me dizzy but got round that by taking it at bedtime. It has been effective and not aware of any other side effects, hope it works well for you.

I take a combination of both. I couldn't tolerate the higher dose of Amlodipine that I needed. The combination works for me.

I had swollen ankles with Amlodipine. Ramipril suits me fine but doesn't work as well for me. The pharmacist suggested a newer calcium channel blocker, Lercanidipine, instead of Amlodipine. It works really well for me and I have no side effects. If you don't get on with Ramipril you could try Lercanidipine.

I moved from Amlodipine to Ramipril for the same reason, gum problems. The only side effect I had from Ramipril was developing a cough, it lasted about 18 months then subsided. The Ramipril has worked well for me and my blood pressure is under control.

I was swapped to Ramipril but the cough was awful. Now on Candesartan with no problems.

How dizzy, unable to walk, or get up from sitting?

I've been on Lisinopril for hypertension for more 20 years. No problems. However, when I had existential reasons for my blood pressure to go up, I was also put on Amlodipine.

I felt weird in the mornings, then weirder. Then I found myself lying on my tiled kitchen floor, staring at the ceiling, thinking "how did I get here?". Re-read about the side effects of 'Dizziness and Fainting'. Gave up after that.

Luckily my BP had recovered by then. Good luck!

I could walk but as soon as I stood up it started, room moving and generally "off kilter".

I had no problems on 2.5mg but it happened on increase to 5mg. It might have settled down but I'm a carer for my DH and couldn't not function properly to give it time. I'd stress that it doesn't happen to everyone and taking it at bedtime has completely solved the problem, I've got up in the middle of the night and been fine
