ESR elevated

Can someone please help talk me down. I've been feeling tired lately, so went privately and got a whole host of bloods done. All came back normal except ESR which is 15 (range 0-12). Should I be worried? And what could this mean? If anyone is familiar with interpreting blood results, should I follow up with my GP on this? FbC, thyroid, biochem, all normal. I don't feel under the weather though so not sure why it's indicating inflammation unless it's something worse?

Anyone?

That's only very slightly raised and could easily be explained by you fighting off a virus. It's a measure of inflammation.

Els1983 · 30/09/2025 16:32

Thanks @isitmyturn but I don't/haven't felt unwell.

Not a medical professional but from my experience with blood results raised inflammation can be due to dehydration.

Els1983 · 30/09/2025 17:31

Thanks @CapitanSandy , I did have a pint of water before my blood test so not sure it was that

Thanks @isitmyturn but I don't/haven't felt unwell.

You wouldn't necessarily feel unwell if your immune system was doing it's job and fighting off an infection. You would only feel unwell if the infection beat the immune system.

Thank you. I wish my HA wasn't so bad and I am getting treatment for it but it always helps me to hear of others similar stories

It also sounds only just out of range. Mine was 50 but without other positive inflammation tests it was just shrugged off.

That's a normal result. Normal range of ESR in females is up to (age+10)/2. I assume you're female and older than 20, so it's normal.

Just a one off slight raise is t anything g to worry about as PP have said it can be anything triggering it, we cone into contact with hundreds of bugs every day, thousands, so the body is fine putting out fires here and there that we don’t even feel. Or if you’ve had a cold, anyone you’ve come into contact with who has had the nasal flu vax, honestly, don’t worry. Often it would need to be consistently raised for there to be any follow up.

@App1es thanks, I didn't know that formula was used. Do you know why my range was given from 0-12?

My bloods have just come back with ESR of 19, everything else normal, bloods done as part of work physical. Also wondering if I should pursue this? No sign of illness, colds etc. 45 years old.
