ICL corrective eye surgery

I’m really interested in hearing experiences of ICL eye surgery. I have a few friends who have had laser surgery but no one who has had this procedure.

I have a high prescription (-9.50/-8.00) and really rely on contacts. My glasses are the thinnest lenses possible but obviously still quite thick so they’re really only for emergencies. Surgery has always felt too risky to me in the past but something has changed recently.

I’ve had a consultation and this is really my best option with my prescription. They’ve been through the procedure and risks but it would be great to hear some real experiences.

How old are you?
Are you having any issues with your contact lenses at the moment?

I’m 45, had ICL a couple of years ago with Bruce Allan at Moorfields. No complications and no regrets, although think my prescription may have slipped slightly (possibly due to medication) which means the vision isn’t quite as sharp as it was, but it’s still good. And of course I will need reading glasses one day.

I thought I was fine with contacts until I started getting dry eyes with a screen heavy job. Now, I wish I’d done it years ago.

@jetlag92 I’m 42 and I’ve worn contacts for 25 years with no issues which is why I’ve never considered it before. I’m not really sure what’s changed, little things like not enjoying taking my DC swimming as I can’t wear contacts, a couple of friends who can’t wear contacts anymore due to dry eyes.

@minipie that’s great you’ve had such a positive experience. I do accept that I will need reading glasses one day but I’d love to be able to at least function without anything, something I can’t ever remember being able to do.

Indeed. I’m -9 and -10 naturally and being able to wake up and just SEE is amazing.
