Please no scary stories - I’m open to hearing negative experiences but please bear in mind I’m due to have this procedure and am feeling nervous.

I’d like to hear how effective your EA was with regards to lighter periods.

How was the recovery?

Was it worth it?

Anyone had it done after C-sections and/or sterilisation?

Any info really. I’ve read a lot & know the risks - Obviously reading them can be quite scary but I know the NHS have to tell us the good & bad.

I had mine done with clip sterilisation at the same time.

i didn’t react well to the pain (possibly the gas for sterilisation) and was in hospital for 3 nights making use of the morphine.

I went back to work after 2 weeks with a one week phased return.

It was absolutely worth it, got my life back, scant bleeding occasionally for a couple of days. 15 years on and I’ve dug out my mooncup to use less than a handful of times as I don’t like wearing wearing liners.

No regrets

It was absolutely incredible for me in every way - changed my life!
I went from having 10 day periods where I couldn’t leave the house during the first week, and being severely anaemic, to having a one day a month bleed where I barely even notice an impact to my day.
The recovery was quick, I was in and out of hospital same day, pain was no worse than a bad period.
Honestly, the best thing ever in terms of transformative medical procedures! (I was sterilised during my third & final c-section) and the ablation was done around 18 months later.

This sounds fab (apart from the pain)!

Great to hear! I was also sterilised during a c-section a couple of years back.

I had this done in August 22 at the same time as treatment of a recurring Bartholin's cyst, so it was done under GA.

It really was not too bad at all, I had a lot of stitching from the BA which took about a month to heal and some cramping from the ablation which was no where near as bad as the pain and bleeding I'd experienced before. I had light periods monthly afterwards and one ordinary one every 3-4 months. About 2 years after that I entered early menopause but those 2 years were so much easier because of the ablation.

I would definitely say it is worth doing and pain after is eased by painkillers and rest, and you will feel so much better as you recover and your iron levels improve.

Illbefinejustbloodyfine · 24/09/2025 15:30

I had mine done under GA, also had biopsies at the same time. No issues at all (other than the recovery from GA!)

Hideous periods reduced to 3 days of light bleeding. Recovery minimal tbh.

WhamBhamThankYouMham · 24/09/2025 15:31

Pain was manageable for a few days. Back at work after a week. Haven't had a period since - 10 years +

I'd had two previous c sections.

Good luck with your procedure x

Also due to have it done in a few weeks so pleased to read all these positive outcomes. Hope it goes well OP

How did your procedure go and recovery? I’m due to have one in 2 weeks

Brilliant! I was in a bit of pain when I woke up and quite nauseous from the GA but that only lasted a few hours after the procedure. I went in at lunchtime, was home by about 7pm. Very drowsy that night and it took a couple of days to feel “normal” while the GA wore off but no pain at all since I was discharged. No periods either!

Ohh amazing! I’m so nervous for Mine as having GA too and didn’t know what to expect afterwards as I’m due to go away in 4 weeks, I’m glad it all went well for you 😊

I was really nervous about GA as it was my first but the team were excellent and reassured me.

I didn’t bleed after but I did have a watery, pinkish discharge for about 6 weeks. Nothing major. Didn’t even really need a pad but I wore wine because it felt a bit “wet” so for my comfort more than anything.
