Migraine - vision disturbance but not pain

Went to the GP who thinks I'm having migraines. I do get painful ones usually but yesterday I just started to see swirly patterns and colours in front of my eyes (no head pain or nausea) for ten minutes which is new.

I've been asked to keep a headache diary. Forgot to ask what I should do if I get them. Assume there's no point in taking aspirin so is it just rest??

Anyone else get these?

I get them too, starting with a blind spot in the middle, with the edges flickering and rippling. Over the course of 20 minutes or so the spot expands as it dissipates, so that I can see in the middle but not round the edges. I don’t take anything for it, just have to wait it out.

There is a type of Denby pottery that I can’t look at because it looks like a migraine.

^I get exactly this too — an aura without the headache that expands outwards and takes around 20-30 mins to disappear.

I also get common migraine too at different times (eg. headache and sickness but no aura).

And not a ‘middle aged woman thing’ - I’ve been having them since I was 18 and my 15 year old son gets them too!

I’ve had them since I was a child and I’m nearly 70 now.

I was told for years they’d stop with menopause.

one son and my daughter get them.

I get them only occasionally now, maybe twice a year. They were often triggered by bright lights especially in my peripheral vision. I get a headache when the zigzagging stops and then feel nauseous for a day.
Things that have helped me are, taking iron, wearing sunglasses, stopping caffeine, dark chocolate, red wine and not eating fruits such as strawberries, oranges and raspberries. I can now have any of these things in moderation. When I was in my twenties any of these would mean an automatic migraine.

Thank you all for the messages. I had no idea how common these headaches were.

Appreciate the advice too, all very helpful.
