Hip pain, scan

I’ve recently developed hip pain on one side. Feel it at top of leg/hip when walking. Also have a strange feeling in my pubic area today. My hips look uneven too.
I have a scan in a few days - will they tell me what’s wrong at the time?

Have you had a fall?
I fell when playing squash. A right backward fall with a bruising thump onto my right buttock and back of head.

I think it jolted my pelvis out of alignment so I had hip pain and pubic bone pain for weeks. Took ages to recover.

I think it is possible for our pelvis’ to go out of alignment for all sorts of reasons connected with weak muscles and tight tendons, Going to the gym has helped me but on the other hand you might have osteoarthritis starting so the X-ray will bench mark that.

No fall or injury. So will the scan show arthritis?

@PashaMinaMio do you mind sharing what helped you recover? Was it just time, or did you need physio, osteopath etc? Also struggling with hip pain that's come out of nowhere and not sure who to go to (GP or someone else?)

You are lucky to get a scan so quickly! Are you in the UK?

DH and I (both early 60s) both get quite bad hip pain in the mornings. We now have his n hers small heart shaped cushions that you hold between your knees as you sleep. Helps a lot. Think it's called bursitis - very common for side sleepers apparently.

What kind of scan are you having? An X-ray will show abnormalities of the bone ie fracture, any fai (bony growths that can tear tissue) and arthritis.

you need a 3T MRI to image the soft tissue and the hip labrum which is often the cause of hip pain if it’s torn (ask me how I know….)

I have hip pain and issues with range of movement. Had it for 2 and a half years now. I had an x ray which showed nothing and and MRI which showed very little. I had a steroid injection into it which did nothing. I now see a wonderful physio every 3-4 weeks who has worked wonders. It's much less painful now and I have gained more flexibility. I still don't have a diagnosis but it seems to be an issue with my piriformis muscle.

no i doubt the scan person will tell you what they see, you will have to wait to see the person who requested the scan.

I forgot to answer your actual question. No, I got no information at the scan. I had to go back to the consultant for that.

Most scans (CT, MRI etc) need to be reviewed after by a radiologist and they write a report on any findings. That gets sent to whichever doctor ordered the scan and they'll give you any information.
