Can you get some sort of cameloine lotion to use in the bath?
Any other hints please.

bicarb of soda in bath.

If spots on nappy area I found smothering the whole area in sudocreme helped.

Piriton was a life saver.

Didn't think much of camoline lotion. Piriton much better to stop the itch.

And, like armadillo says, bicarb in a nice cool bath (cool, not cold!!!)

How old is your youngster?

Hope all is well.

copingvquietly · 02/06/2008 18:59

patience of a saint also necessary

Keep the sudocrem in the fridge, it's wonderfully cooling.

Also, Eurax cream/lotion to help take away the itchiness.

I've just got mine out of big warm bath with oats & bicarb - the most effective remedy for both of mine. Put oats in muslin & squeeze into water.

Piriton + calpol/similar

We used used homeopathy tablets - no idea if real or placebo effect, but had a very calming effect on ds

(warm as opposed to hot, not disagreeing with the cool brigade )

I got some Benadryl syrup (Zirtec, hayfever antihistamine) for dd for daytime, when something sedative like Piriton would have made her feel worse than she already did.

Some kids do well with Piriton, but dd did a lot better with Benadryl and then Medised at night - the Piriton just made her sleepy and irritable without helping the itch, for some reason.

But Benadryl is for over 2s normally - my dd2 is prescribed it for hayfever at 18 months, but its not sold over the counter for that age group.

And I'd go along with the bicarb/oats baths, along with plenty of DVDs, books, and patience
