Polyps and CT scan?

My elderly parent had to go to the hospital as they had a bit of blood in their urine. It was infrequent, and after they exerted themself playing sport. They were initially told it was down to blood thinners, and it reduced, but it’s still happening at times.

They had a camera inserted in the bladder and have been told they have polyps and need a bladder scrape under general anaesthetic.

They’ve been called and told to have a CT Scan next week (that’ll be 2 weeks after the camera).

Can anyone explain to me why they’d need a CT scan. We are jumping to upset conclusions here and feel we need to have more info to process.

At a guess, I'd assume it's so they can see exactly where the polyps are.

Edited to add - it will be a scan of the abdominal/pelvic region so will also pick up any outliers (outside the bladder).

I would think it would be check the polyps and as a reassurance scan. Until the polyps are removed and tested they wouldn’t 100% know what they are, but it also doesn’t mean that they are anything other than a polyp.

Honestly I’m so stressed out.

My sibling (who is taking my parent to the scan) has said that it must be cancer.

Of course, we need to wait to see what they say but I don’t think they only do CT scans if you have something very nasty wrong with you.

Don’t panic. I have had CT scans multiple times (at least 10 over the years). I’ve also had polyps. It really doesn’t mean she has cancer. Like I said before I would bet money on them just doing it as a precaution, possibly because of her age.
If none of you have had a CT scan before it’s easy to panic because it seems scary. But it really isn’t something to panic over at this stage.

Thank you HateThursdays.

TBH I was cool headed about the whole thing till my sibling got distressed about it.

They will be unlikely to have had the results back confirming they are definitely polyps yet if s/he hasn’t long had the camera. But they usually have a good idea what they are when they remove them.
If your parent has had bleeding then they are probably just 100% checking that the polyp was the source of the blood. But I had bleeding and it was caused by the polyp.

So, they did the CT scan and found a number of polyps, one is 1cm and the others are smaller.

They said they need to want to take them out ASAP. Not sure if that is a bad sign. They are not in the wall of the bladder, but grown out (don't know what I am talking about) like a mushroom. They couldn't see anything wrong with the organs around it.

My sibling is still thinking doom and gloom about this, even though I thought it seemed OK at this stage.
