Curious Palpitations Following an Attempt at “Reverse Corpse Pose” – Has Anyone Else Experienced This?

Good afternoon, everyone.

I wonder if anyone might be able to shed some light on something that occurred earlier today. After a fairly gentle yoga session, I decided to experiment with what I understand is sometimes referred to as the “reverse corpse pose” (essentially lying prone with arms along the sides, palms up, encouraging stillness and deep breathing for 20 minutes).

Approximately two hours afterwards, I noticed an odd fluttering sensation in my chest — rather like palpitations — which persisted intermittently for perhaps fifteen minutes. I wasn’t breathless or dizzy, but it did leave me feeling rather unsettled.

For context, I hadn’t eaten any lunch but I am generally well hydrated. Has anyone else encountered palpitations some time after practising restorative or supine postures?

I’d be grateful for any insight or similar experiences. Of course, if it recurs I shall speak to my GP, but I’d love to hear if this is a common yoga-related quirk or simply coincidence.
Many thanks in advance.

Palpitations often happen when you’re lying down. I would monitor them and note them down. If they continue, and are frequent, ask to see a cardiologist. I get palpitations (I’m in my 40s). Turns out I have a leaky mitral valve. The cardiologist isn’t overly concerned, and said not to worry about palpitations unless they lasted longer than a minute and happened regularly. If you’re worried ask to see a cardiologist.
