Losing weight

Hi,

I’m trying to lose weight after having my 2 kids and for some reason I’m stuck on 78kg.

I was 65kg before kids and after kids I was 80kg.

my main goal was diet and controlling what I eat because my youngest is 5 months and my partner works away all week plus I have no family or help around so I’m struggling to find the time to exercise but I’m on my feet all day long looking after the kids and cleaning the house and cooking etc.

ive tried calorie counting and counted every last thing I eat in a day, this is the lowest I’ll go calorie wise otherwise I start to feel ill.

I eat very clean, and healthy. I don’t do processed food or sugar etc. I’ll list what I eat and when and how many calories, protein etc I consume.

am I doing something wrong? By body just won’t budge under 78kg and I’ve been doing this for about 3 months now. Occasionally allowing myself a cheat meal but its not a weekly occurrence.

todays food - i eat between 1pm and 6pm only.

coffee, with collagen peptides, 50ml semi skimmed milk - 95kcal / 20g protein

organic protein powder, 100ml semi skimmed milk - 140kcal / 30g protein

Greek yoghurt 200g, raspberries 75g, blueberries 75g, banana 100g, honey 15g - 420kcal / 15g protein

Salmon 190g, cavolo Nero 100g, avocado 100g, 2 fried eggs, aparagus 100g - 871kcal / 65g protein

total: 1,500kcal / 70g carbs / 84g fat / 120g protein.

3L water all throughout the day.

any advice please? Thank you

How long ago did you have your last child?

Itsisthattime · 08/09/2025 14:40

You never deviate? Don’t drink any alcohol? Weekends are the same?

Ignore me 5 months old

Itsisthattime · 08/09/2025 14:42

Are your breast feeding?

You must feel exhausted on this diet and with near constant movement during the day op

No not breastfeeding. Formula only

Not a chance, not even the slither of a possibility that what you describe is 84g of fat unless your portions are truly gargantuan

No I don’t drink alcohol at all. Diet or not.

weekends look the same for me and every now and again I’ll have a takeaway.

I just take the info on the food packets and weigh my food and put it on my app to see how much I’m actually consuming of each. I mean the 2 salmon fillets today alone is 30g fat. Then yoghurt is 15g fat, 2 fried eggs 15g fat, avocado is 17g fat etc. All adds up x

You have to 5 month old and another child
snd you eat a yoghurt and some fruit all day before dinner.

OP you must be on your knees

Itsisthattime · 08/09/2025 14:58

If that really has been your diets for the last 3 months and you’ve lost nothing… then something is up because you can’t really eat much less.

I was to begin with then found that if I increase my water intake. I feel pretty good only eating what I eat.

Yeah I definitely don’t want to eat less. The only thing I can think of is that my hormones are still running wild after having the baby?

i would lose weight on that but I’m 5ft 8 and my TDEE is 1600 so a 1500 calorie day would put me in a deficit. It would be a reasonably slow weight loss but I would lose.

What is your TDEE? If you are petite then you may need to eat less to be in a deficit.

I’m 5ft 7. Didn’t think to include my height. So yeah maybe I will start losing it but very slowly. Maybe I’m just hoping for results too soon after having q baby

@Justamumof2x your TDEE will be around 1750 a day, so that’s how many to eat to maintain your weight. To lose 1-2lb a week you want to aim for about 500 below TDEE so your target would be 1250 a day.

Icanttakethisanymore · 08/09/2025 16:26

How active are you? Walking would help you get into calorie deficit. If you walk 10k you'll burn over 500cals.

Sadly I’m on 3k max. If out on a walk. At home running after the kids or cleaning etc. Who knows!

Omg I’d have to have dinner only or 2 smaller meals instead. 1250 is insane. Not saying you’re wrong but wow that’s hard

You could probably make some reasonable switches to feel full and reduce your calories, for example you could have a smaller portion of the salmon, or no eggs or remove the avocado in your main meal and that would reduce that meal by about 200 calories. Then you could increase with mushrooms or more greens which would only add about 50 calories, that would make your daily intake 1350.

With your lunch, you could leave out the banana or have slightly less yoghurt and put some chia seeds in for bulk and filling and that would reduce the calories there.

You do not want to starve yourself, and you eat some really good food so I think it’s more little tweaks. Things like replacing some of the meat with beans or lentils when making a bolognaise or stew, just small adaptations.

ThreePears · 08/09/2025 17:31

I'm no expert, but I do think that you would be better off by having three meals a day - including breakfast. You are starving yourself every day for 19 hours, so when you do eat, your body is going to grab every calorie going and store as much of it as possible. You need to spread your intake better.

By the way, having Greek yoghurt, raspberries, blueberries, banana and honey all together as part of one meal is one hell of a sugar hit all at once. It's not just in the fruit and honey, but the lactose in the yoghurt as well.

I suspect your blood sugar is all over the place.

Wow thank you I’ll have a look to change things up ☺️

Your body may be storing fat as you’re putting it into starvation mode by not eating for most of the day.

Also, how old are you? If you’re perimenopausal it may be difficult to lose weight until after menopause.

Radiatorvalves · 08/09/2025 18:12

While it’s mainly about food I do think you should try and increase your activity from 3000 steps. When the kids were little I used to walk a lot with the push chair and suspect that helped.

FurForksSake · 08/09/2025 18:12

If you think you at eating 1500 you could easily be having 1600 with variation in calories in products and portion sizes. With the low activity and tdee you may just need to be going lower or increasing the activity to push you into a deficit.

Try 1200 for a couple of weeks and see how you are doing.
