I need to nip this in the bud - how?

I have a rotten cold, sneezing and nose running all day, headache and tickly throat. I am feeling like a wet dishrag but the kids are back at school tomorrow so will have to get up.

Kids in bed now. Planning on an early shower and bed myself. Anything I can take?

vit c, hot water with lemon and honey (contains natural antiseptic and antibiotics), paracetamol, warm bath/shower, early night.

Hope you feel better tomorrow!

NotABanana · 01/06/2008 18:31

I love Vicks.

DH would make me a lemsip but we don't have any.

Sorting out kids stuff tmw and then early bed I think.

If you have Manuka honey sip it slowly off a spoon - do not put it in hot water water as it kills the anti-viral/antibiotic element. Echinacea works wonderfully for DH and shortens colds by days. Drinking lots of fluids will help the headache. Hope you feel better soon.

NotABanana · 01/06/2008 18:55

How do you say Echinacea and where can I get it from please?

I really must go to bed soon.

BroccoliSpears · 01/06/2008 19:29

Fluids and sleeeeeeeeep.

maidamess · 01/06/2008 19:31

My new hot tip...rub Vicks into your feet and wear socks to bed. 100% guaranteed to stop a cough.** Guarantee not legally binding. Your statutory rights are not affected.

Slubberdegullion · 01/06/2008 19:32

I get my echinacea from sainsbury's. It's good, I'm pretty convined now that it reduces my cold symptoms and shortens the duration of the cold.

Slubberdegullion · 01/06/2008 19:33

lol maidamess....are you sure that tip is not better suited for the medieval thread?

maidamess · 01/06/2008 19:34

Slubber, the font of all wisdom (Sarah Kennedy on Radio 2) says it works.

Thats a rock solid promise in my book.

asicsgirl · 01/06/2008 19:34

taste the difference echinacea?

asicsgirl · 01/06/2008 19:36

i used to use echinacea liquid and that always felt quite medieval. all that 'add 15 drops to glass of water'. exactly 15!! then eye of newt and toe of frog...

i do think it works tho

Slubberdegullion · 01/06/2008 19:38

lol well if it was Sarah Kennedy who said it I might go and rub some Vics in now, as a preventative measure.

asic girl, absolutely taste the difference, nicer pack, better picture of the echinacea flower on the front, tabs taste vile instead of really vile

vicks first defense, but it sounds like you are too far gone foor that!

cupsoftea · 01/06/2008 19:45

have had this since friday - feeling better today - cups of tea helped!

NotABanana · 02/06/2008 09:51

Still feel pants.

Went to bed at 7.30 with the paper and a piece of cake, lights out at 9.15pm. Up for loo at 5 and then visited 3 more times since.

Was in Asda at 8 and got some Lemsip, forgot everything else as rushing to get kids to school.

Feel like a wrung out dish cloth.

Emotionally a wreck too so that doesn't help.

maidamess, I was going to put this one down too.
My Dd had a cough last week with her cold and I rubbed Vicks on the soles of her feet, her back and chest and she slept well, no coughing. It really does work!

NotABanana · 02/06/2008 10:04

My son is nearly 3 and he has a cough now, as well as my 4 year old DD. Can I use Vicks on both of them?

OP posts:
solo · 02/06/2008 10:09

yes, I used Vicks on my Ds as a toddler...says over 6 months.

NotABanana · 02/06/2008 10:15

Thanks, will go and find it.

NotABanana · 02/06/2008 11:06

Damn, have no VIcks. Left message for Dh to get some. Will have to wait until tonight. DS2 going to bed soon as he isn't himself.
