Husband always falling asleep early

Husband has always had issues with falling asleep. I always joke that he can fall asleep anywhere at any time but actually I don’t know if this is normal. He works in manual labour so early starts & on his feet all day at work. He often falls asleep early in the evening & snores like a trooper. The snoring is unbelievably annoying and the cause of many an argument…. He has been tested for sleep apnea and had a sleep study which came back normal. He is due for a follow up next year apparently.

At the weekend I’m finding myself agitated that he is falling asleep before 9pm. He didn’t wake up any earlier than I did this morning (6am with our daughter), not done anything exceptional to make him overly tired and it’s annoying that my evening, when our nearly 2 year old has only just gone to sleep, is now spent listening to him snore. He put her to bed and clearly went into our room to make sure she was down, and has fallen asleep in the process. If he hadn’t have fallen asleep up there, he would be asleep on the sofa regardless.

is this normal? He’s an otherwise healthy 35 year old? Maybe I’m just aggy as I’m heavily pregnant yet still manage to be a functioning adult in the evening 😂 I always tell him he needs to get a blood test or something but it’s hard as he doesn’t see any issue in this.

He’s very young for this.. my dh is exactly the same but late 50’s, also tested negatively for sleep apnea. I would be very careful with him driving especially with your dd.

My DH was the same in his 30s (and still is in his 50s...) He did have glandular fever in his teens which he blames but also had a prolactinoma and low testosterone which the drs thought was contributing. I can tell when he is due another hormone injection as he falls asleep pretty much whenever he sits on the sofa.

My husband falls asleep early sometimes, but not all the time! He's 18 years older than your husband though, and doesn't do a manual job. However, he snores like a trooper, I think it's enough to wake the dead!! My husband is healthy, not overweight, and no underlying health issues. If your husband is working long hours, on his feet and it's a manual job, that is going to make him tired. You have a young child, and a full family life. However, if he's like this now, how is he going to cope when your second child is born?? He can't just disappear for a nap! I would suggest he speaks to his GP and asks for a blood test, just to check all is OK. He shouldn't be falling asleep early every night at 35, even with a manual job and family life. It needs to be checked out.

My dad was like this and turns out he had a problem with candida (yeast overgrowth) in his gut - was always worse if he had wheat or beer.

Not saying it’s that! Just saying there are a few different medical possibilities to think about / rule out. Does he have any other symptoms? Anything else seem unusual?

I will definitely make him contact the GP and request a blood test.

I also worry about when baby arrives and the impact it’ll have on him (and me!) but mainly just worry there is something else going on that’s being missed. Hopefully if we do get a blood test it’ll give us an idea.

@minipie He sometimes complains that he feels somethings lodged in his throat but this is part of what is being checked out with the ENT / sleep apnea appointment. He’s constantly clearing his throat (again, annoying!) but the appointment just keeps being moved which makes him think it’s not anything to worry about. Men 🙄

Did an ENT look in his throat previously when sleep apnea was dismissed? I would have thought they should…
