Breast lump - not movable - panicking

user64291 · 07/09/2025 07:11

Hi. I’m slightly panicking. I have found a lump in my left breast. I check every month so this is new. It’s smooth and hard but behind my nipple and the nurse said she couldn’t move it. It seems to have appeared since mirena was removed and I started utrogestran (on HRT). At the breast clinic tomorrow late afternoon. Absolutely petrified it’s sinister because I can’t move it. Seems achy sometimes especially in the evenings. Anybody else experienced this? It’s that it’s not movable that’s worrying me and now I’m second guessing that I’ve not been checking correctly previously!

Try not to panic. I have lots of breast cysts and I wouldn't ever describe them as "movable". Definitely worth getting checked out but if it's new (which I'm sure it is, although I understand the second guessing), then it's much more easily dealt with if it is something sinister.

Best of luck to you.

Also, cancers are rarely painful whereas cysts often can be quite achy.

Thanks @Partridgewell. Always so hard not to let your mind wander. If it was moveable I don’t think I’d feel so worried!

I’ve had breast cancer twice and both times it was painful - a sharp stabbing pain, not an ache. Also, no lump at all. In your case, the fact that it aches and that it’s come on since you’ve had the Mirena removed would be reassuring.

@ToomanywaterbottlesThank you for commenting. Yes it’s not a stabbing. I hope you are well now and doing all ok xx

Sorry you're going through this OP, it's so stressful. If you gently pinch the lump at it's sides, does it sort of slide away from under your fingers? Hope that makes sense. I read that it can be hard to tell if lumps move, but doing this can help you feel whether it can a bit better. Either way, it sounds like it could be hormonal? I had to go to a breast clinic last month and the healthcare workers are lovely. They'll take good care of you. All the best. 🙏🏼

I’ve had this twice. Hard, immovable lump. Both times it was a cyst and the extremely high likelihood is that yours is too. Good luck xx

@WatermelonsDownByTheBayIt is so stressful! I know nobody can give answers but it’s nice to hear from people who understand. @WherehaveallthegoodmengoneThank you. I hope I’m like you!

Just to update the post. Benign fibrocystic changes likely due to hormonal fluctuations 😅 Thanks for those who commented. 👍
