Has anyone successfully got rid of costochondritis?

Awful stabbing pain in right upper chest into my back (diagnosed costochondritis). Fine when I'm sitting or lying still, when I move about it's agony. If I press the area it is tender. I am taking ibuprofen with no effect. It's been a few days. I've been told to rest which is not possible as a single mum. It's so sore!!

i had it for a long time a few years back, awful rib cage pain.
the only thing that got rid of it in the end was going to the gym, believe it or not!
a program of weight training made a huge difference. It was a chronic problem by this point though.

My DD17 had this for over a month this summer. She has IBD and can't take ibuprofen for more than 48 hours ( and only for extreme pain) so we saw her Gastro for advice as paracetamol wasn't helping at all. She was in too much pain to sleep.

He prescribed an IBD friendlier ( none are brilliant for IBD ) strong anti inflammatory pain killer and told her to take it for 5 days straight. He said that the anti inflammatory should work to get rid of it and keep her pain free while it works.

After 5 days she was pain free so stopped taking it as instructed and no sign of any issues now for the last couple of weeks.

So perhaps your GP can prescribe a stronger anti inflammatory?

My friend has this regularly as it's part of her fibromyalgia issues and uses a tens machine to manage it.

My DD has this. She was told that there's no point in ibuprofen as it won't help/can cause other issues. She just suffers through! Thankfully the flare ups aren't regular.

I get this a few times a year. Coughing sets it off so any kind of virus. It goes away on it's own.
