Right under ribcage pain

Hi I’m 10 weeks pregnant, Thursday evening about 30 mins after eating my dinner(spaghetti and meatballs) I had this overwhelming burning pain in the top of my abdomen which radiated to my chest. I then went really hot and violently vomited all my food, then went really cold and shaky. Ever since I’ve had this niggling pain under my right ribcage. Feels like someone is almost squeezing me right then slowly releasing. Not excruciatingly painful but enough to make me stop and notice it. It’s happening regularly throughout the day. I’ve seen the GP who has said as it’s the first time he will treat as indigestion. But normally my indigestion manifests as a burning in my throat. He also mentioned gallbladder, I was just wondering if anyone has had similar symptoms with gallbladder? I know that being pregnant can also cause gallbladder issues to arise.

Hi there…. That does sound gall bladder-y to me. I had terrible gallbladder issues until I had it removed and while my reactions weren’t as immediate as yours, an attack would come on quite quickly and was in the same location as you are describing. I also felt as though I had a big hot ball of pain there…. It would build up and the. Slowly pass. Would go hot and cold, feel sick etc. sympathy to you, it was awful!

Sounds like gallbladder. Stop eating anything fatty. Eat low fat healthy foods and see if the pain goes away. See if the GP will give you a scan to look at it. Sometimes it’s gallstones and sludge in there and a stone moves to somewhere and gets stuck and it hurts. A lot.

Thank you for responding. This is my fear, I will call the GP Monday and explain I’m still having right sided pain (albeit only niggling) hopefully being pregnant will push him to send for a scan!

sounds like a plan OP. Meanwhile, as PP said, avoid all fatty food. I found I would have a sort of gallbladder attack hangover for a day or so after an attack../ felt as though my insides had been through a wrangle. Really uncomfortable. Hope you feel better soon and good luck w the GP…

I had this while pregnant and it was biliary colic. I was admitted to hospital and had an ultrasound which showed a large gallstone… I’ve had to have a low fat diet throughout pregnancy. My baby is born now and I saw the surgeons lately and am on a (long) list for gallbladder removal.

Over the weekend though it would be important to make sure you don’t have symptoms of a fever, worsening pain or any jaundice as this can be signs of gallbladder infection (cholecystitis).

All the best x

@Orangeyishyes afterwards I was up in the night with so much discomfort afterwards and also the following day for quite some time! Fortunately today it’s not so bad, just the odd niggle! Thank you!

@Emeleneoh my
goodness how awful! This is my fear I’m already restricted due to pregnancy aversions and to then have to restrict more is going to be so miserable! Thanks for the pointers, I’m hopeful that if it was my gallbladder it was what they call an ‘attack’ and I shall steer clear of heavy meals like spaghetti and meatballs from here on, hopefully keeping the pain at bay!

Yep, sounds exactly like gallstone pain. It's horrible, and literally nothing gets rid of it until the stone passes.

Definitely try to get a scan, at least then you know what you're dealing with. Took ages for mine to be diagnosed because the pain was completely central and not radiating to my shoulder blade. If yours is, make sure to mention it, it's apparently the classic sign!
