I have tinnitus almost constantly….no matter what it’s always there. I can’t follow conversations in groups and sometimes struggle with the tv! Very depressing

Jitterbuggs · 03/09/2025 16:45

I have tinnitus in one ear 24/7 - it's from viral damage

Starrrz · 03/09/2025 16:46

Starrrz · 03/09/2025 16:47

@Jitterbuggs mone started from having a virus for 4 years in both ears. Does yours ever sound like roaring? X

Celine000 · 03/09/2025 16:52

@Starrrz mine is just a high pitched constant noise a bit like an alarm - never any other sound….mine started around 4/5 years ago too…..I did speak to a nurse friend last week who suggested trying to get beta histamine and when I googled it appears that it can be prescribed for menieres?

Starrrz · 03/09/2025 16:54

@Celine000 oo really?? Didnt know that helped with tinnutis?

im worried i have meneirs cause my ears are also blocked atm 😩😩 im only 30 years old

I got pulsatile tinnitus from burst eardrum about 20 years ago. It then slowly seemed to fade and then after COVID jab it came back but is now high pitched noise. It can fade though and sometimes not noticeable

Celine000 · 03/09/2025 17:52

@Starrrztry not worry too much at this point…my husband has menieres and can be debilitating.

i do wonder though if it’s related to the covid jab as both @Slimtoddysaid…? Mine is high pitched too

Starrrz · 03/09/2025 17:55

@Celine000 i have a 3 month old and i cant function cause im worked myself up😭😭😭 hormones arent helping me at all!

I think its normal for tinnitus to spike at times and cause loud roaring. Different causes and I've heard about covid jabs possibly being one of them. I've had tinnitus in my right ear for 10 years now, after a failed ear syringing. Can honestly say for the first few weeks I struggled with the thought of having it forever then something weird happened.
Somehow my brain got used to it and i sort of learned to ignore it. Think that's called habituation. I found the best thing you can do is to surround yourself with background noise l (fridge freezer hum or white noise) and it kinda drowns it out, weirdly. I'm still aware of it every night when the house is quiet but it never stops me sleeping. Mine is now in both ears (ring in right, roaring and ring in left) because I stupidly stood at front of stage at a very loud gig a few weeks ago and forgot to wear earplugs 😳

I have bad tinnitus. Had it from bilateral ear infections earlier this year. A deep HUUUMMMMM and a high pitched sizzle. I absolutely hate it and its really affected my QOL and causing some dark thoughts :(

gummywitch · 04/09/2025 13:13

I'm so sorry mjf981 It can really take over your life and make you feel life's not worth living but please dont feel youre alone feeling how you do at the moment. There's a great charity called Tinnitus uk who have a free helpline and talked me through my lowest moments and gave me so much support with helpful ideas and coping strategies. Trust me when I say your brain will learn to ignore it 95% of the time and it won't bother you the way it does right now.

LavenderBlue19 · 04/09/2025 13:21

I've had tinnitus in one ear since I got an ear infection after Covid in 2022. Thankfully my brain has learned to ignore it, but it was horrible at first and drove me mad. Like a pp, it gets worse when I've been somewhere loud.

If you have pressure and fluid behind the eardrum it sounds like you need to see a specialist to get that resolved.

No, crickets - millions and millions of crickets 😂🤣

DemonsandMosquitoes · 04/09/2025 19:57

I’ve had pulsatile tinnitus for three years. I can tell you my heart rate just by listening.

DuckCootLoon · 04/09/2025 20:19

I have tinnitus, it sounds like a lorry is parked on my shoulder. It comes and goes, and is worse when I'm ill or tired.
It probably is due to menieres, but I wanted to reassure you that mine isn't a big deal. You sound like you're worried from the reading you've done, so I wanted to reassure you that there is variation in symptoms.
I've had two attacks of bad dizziness in about 10 years, which only lasted a few hours. No vertigo/dizziness at all day to day, although I do avoid sudden head movements because of lurching sensations, and I wouldn't risk a rollercoaster or a zorb ball or similar. I have no problems mountain biking, ice skating etc (no pirouettes lol).
Menieres was suggested by the audiologist, but I wouldn't want to take medication with such infrequent symptoms, so haven't bothered confirming the diagnosis.

Starrrz · 04/09/2025 23:40

@DuckCootLoon thank you so much for your message! I joined a fb group and that has sent my to a major anxiety attack! I have. 3 month old and i keep worrying!

im glad you dont get symptoms thats soo good. The tinnutis i can deal with, but i hate it when it roars. Also, the pressure in my ears atm but drs sre saying uts fluid behind my ears.

i just worked myself up so much , reading peoples horror stories did not help me at all. But your message made me feel better for sure. Do you have no salt or caffeine? Xx

OP posts:
DuckCootLoon · 05/09/2025 18:38

No, but you've got me wondering. I definitely notice the tinnitus more when I'm tired, but I also increase caffeine to try to combat the tiredness! I'll pay a bit more attention now to see.
I drink about 4 cups of tea a day normally. I don't think that's a particularly high or low caffeine intake?
I think I have always had a very low salt diet generally - I cook mostly from scratch, use low salt stock, soy sauce etc.
I hope your symptoms settle to something manageable too.

Starrrz · 05/09/2025 19:29

@DuckCootLoon so you dont have meneirs ? You do get vertigo or blocked ears? My ears are making popping nooses and awful pain? X

OP posts:
Starrrz · 05/09/2025 19:32

@DuckCootLoon tinnutis can be normal a lot of people have it but if you have other symptoms thats go with it x

OP posts:
DuckCootLoon · 05/09/2025 20:30

I have tinnitus, and I probably have menieres -it was suggested by the audiologist, but I haven't bothered to get a proper diagnosis.
I've had two bad attacks of dizziness which I thought were labyrinthitis at the time. Day to day I barely have any symptoms, but that's partly because I have modified my movements. Certain head positions make me feel like I'm lurching, and I can't shake my head quickly, I would fall over if I did. I have good balance in situations where I can keep my head upright.

I couldn't dance like they do on Strictly - there's no way I could spin or move my head like they do. I'd be clinging on to the floor to stop the spinning sensation.
I would avoid an activity where I might be tumbled, but there's nothing in my fairly normal, fairly active life that I can't do.
