Recurrent Urinary Tract Infection

Wondering if anyone out there has had same experience as me.
Background is that I was hospitalised in March for pneumonia and received massive doses of antibiotics both orally and intraveneously. A week after I got out of hospital I developed a UTI. That's 2 months ago now and I have been treated with antibiotic after antibiotic. They finally identified e-coli which was resistant to trimethoprim as the last sample I submitted was an unusual strain of e-coli. I've almost finished a course of macrodantin which is supposed to target the particular bacteria found. I am experiencing symptoms again. I am worried as I'm beginning to wonder if there is something else going on. I've read that kidney stones are not usually accompanied by bacteria so that may rule kidney stones out. Obviously I will go back to the dr. next week but in the meantime I'm looking for imput.
Does anyone know or have experience of recurrent UTI's and circumstances and outcomes?

I do!

I have recurrent UTIs which began when I was pregnant and were related to kidney stones. My stones were related to bacteria - a bacteria in your kidney gives a nucleus for a stone to form. I spent several years in a lot of pain with stones and UTIs.

I have probably taken every antibiotic known to medicine. In the end, it was pregnancy related and though it took 2 years to stop after dd2 was born. I am still very prone to infections - one of the greatest tips I got form a urologist was to take a dose of antibiotics after sex - that made a huge difference to the number of infections I got.

Please feel free to CAT me if you want to talk about it more. I feel like I went through the wringer over it all, and feel like it will always be there at the back of my mind.

Hi Weegiemum. Sorry very new to mumsnet. How do I CAT?
I am also 4 months pospartum on dc3 and I wonder if that has had something to do with it. Didn't suffer during pregnancy but have done in the past.

Do you remember the name of the bacteria? How were the stones detected and did you have to pass the stones?

a friend does - turns out that she wasn't emptying her bladder when she peed and this was causing the infections. She's been told surgery will repair this (by widening her urethra) Caused (she's been told) by a c-section 4 years ago.
