Trimallear fracture

Hi had a trimallear fracture end of July on holiday and had to travel back to the uk for surgery. I finally had the surgery mid August (3 weeks after break) and am now 2.5 weeks post surgery. generally it’s been fine but since putting the boot on 3 days ago (when they took off the cast and removed stitches) I’ve been struggling. I can’t work out if my ankle is in the correct position, it feels like it’s moving around in there and then if I tighten it I get pins and needles and pain. I take the boot off to do simple physio but otherwise have it on all day and night.
does it get better? !

also I am stressing because it is soooo painful to do backwards and forwards physio they told me to do in the hospital and it looks like I’m doing absolutely nothing, barely moving!
I am worried that when they tell me I can go weight bearing in 4 weeks it will be such a long uphill struggle to get moving and back to work.

I have read online that you need to book private physio as the nhs takes too long, can anyone who’s been through this before confirm if I should be having private physio now or when they tell me to go weight bearing in 4 weeks? If so should I book it in now?

any success stories greatly appreciated!

Could be that it's not fitted correctly, or you have the wrong size boot. Can you go back to wherever fitted it and ask? You should check it's not giving you a pressure sore. I've had 3 ankle surgeries and I don't love boots, they never seem to fit well! Do you have any padding in the boot that you can add or take away? Is swelling causing pain? If so you should elevate your foot high and often and use ice while the boot is off - after your physio plus a few other times a day. You can also put a frozen plastic water bottle under your knee when you're elevating and the boot is on.
Can't really help with physio but it's early days for you. You need to try hard but not overdo it. It's a gradual process... when you're cleared to weight bear, you are unlikely to suddenly be walking as you did before. You'll most likely need some time partially weight bearing with crutches - you can add extra weight in as you feel comfortable (follow your doctor's directions, of course!).

Good luck!
