Does anyone know if it is possible to alternate ibuprofen, paracetamol and soluable asprin. I want to gargle and swallow asprin then take ibuprofen and paracetamol every couple of hours. Am in so much pain. Can I do this?

I wouldn't swallow the aspirin if takng nurofen, too similar and might do bad things to your stomach. Throat pain is awful, I would gargle and spit then alternate paracetamol and nurofen plus (with codeine), at least at night.

If you can get it prescribed, Voltarol is far more effective than nurofen for throat pain - esp the suppositories.

Wishing you better asap, xxx

Thankyou for taking the time to answer Elibean. My mum, bless her got me some paracetamol with codeine from the pharmacy and that is helping. It's so sore though I could cry. Will prob go to docs if no better Monday as although I have no tonsils anymore, there are white spots. A also trying all the other remedies such as honey and lemonm, ice pops etc.

I can seriously recommend co-codamol (paracetamol and codeine). It really works if you are trying to break the cycle, the other thing is to find something like throaties that will numb your throat a little.

The white pots sounds like strep throat, you might need antibiotics, go to a walk in centre, you will be in agony to wait another day.

Thanks SpacePuppy. Im not sure where our nearest walk in centre is but if no better tommorow I may do that. The spots are on both sides but the pain and sore glands are mainly on one side.

Meg, does sound like either strep throat - in which case you need ABs, soon, - or possibly ulcers, in which case viral and ABs no use. I've had the latter, and it hurt like crazy - you can sort of tell if they're ulcers, look just like mouth ulcers but on soft palate/tonsil area.

Prob can google NHS direct and find yoru nearest walk in??

MegGriffin · 31/05/2008 20:01

Will go and have a look at NHS direct, dose up tonight and see how I am tomorrow. Thank you so much for your replies, get bugger all sympathy here!
