Think DS has chickenpox but stuck in Turkey

My DS came up in a rash on hgis face the other day where it looks like small white disks with small red spots in them. We are currrently on holiday in Turkey and went to the chemist who said we had to go to the doctor. He charged us £70 to tell us in very bad Engtlish that it was only mosquito bites and gave us some cream (and didn't we feel ripped off).

However the rash has now spread to arms and legs and DS (2.9 years) wants to sleep the whole time and is not eating much. It now looks as though DD (19 months) has developed the spots and she is off her food and milk. If indeed it is chickenpox what should I get the children out here? I have Eurax, Piritin, calamine etc at home but do not have a clue what the Turkish equivalents would be.

Plus we are meant to be flying back to the UK on Friday. What usually happens if children have chickenpox as I do not want them going on the flight and spreading it to other children or pregnant ladies. We have travel insurance so I hope that will help.

So I suppose what I am asking is:
(1) Does it sound like chickenpox
(2) What can I get to relieve the itch in Turkey
(3) Can I expect it to have gone byt the time we fly on Friday?

chickenpox usually starts on the torso then spreads up and then down. Are they blistering? Could be german measles or measles tbh? Have you full access to the internet - I would google and compare spots.

We've just got back from the Caribbean - where dd developed chicken pox .

We got some stuff called "Caladryl" to paint all over her!

Can you get some porridge oats? Put about 8 large spoonfulls in a sock, tie up the end and put it in a bath of water. Let the sock soak for a few minutes and then squeeze the sock a few times. The resulting milky liquid will mix with the bath water and be very soothing.

However, I think you need to get a definitive diagnosis first. Can you post a photograph on here or do as cargirl says and google it?

Call your travel insurer
They should be able to help with you seeing another doc

Littlefish we're you able to travel back with dd while she had chickenpox?

Littlefish · 03/06/2008 07:40

Yes, but we had to get a letter from a doctor to say that she was fit to fly. We then had to see the superviser for Virgin when we checked in. They had initially said that we would need to see the doctor, but there wasn't one available.

By the time we flew home (5 days after spots appeared), dd's had almost all crusted over (or at least the ones you could see!!!!!!)
