Poor boy

He is a COMPLETE rule follower and the dentist told him he had to stop sucking his thumb so he has (dutifully) put this stuff on his thumb but now he is sobbing because he can't sleep

so I've tried to wash it off but it doesn't seem to work grrr

can you wash it off or does it stick on their skin?

oh bless him and how sad. No advice just hope he manages to sleep soon

TooTicky · 30/05/2008 21:04

Sorry, no advice. What about his other thumb?

foxinsocks · 30/05/2008 21:06

no, he likes just the one thumb

I have told him he can put it in his mouth and I will remove his thumb when I go to bed and he seems happy with this

apparently the dentist told him no-one would like him when he is older if he sucks his thumb

you see, this is what happens when you work and don't take them to the dentist yourself grrrr

Name and shame the dentist!

foxinsocks · 30/05/2008 21:13

well I can see why the dentist has that opinion and 6 is probably old enough to stop I suppose

but he's still my wee lad and he's ever so sensitive and I think perhaps it wasn't necessary to use those words with such a young child

I guess he just won't be going to the dentist without me next time!

OP posts:
TooTicky · 30/05/2008 21:14

Indeed. Wonder if he has children of his own.

And six is still little!

foxinsocks · 30/05/2008 21:17

thanks toot

Why exactly did the dentist tell him to stop? I sucked my thumb till I was 13 and my teeth are fine.
Seems a bit cruel to me.

ComeOVeneer · 30/05/2008 21:26

Aftr the baby teeth come out and the adult ones start coming through, it is a good time to try and cease thumb sucking, but the dentists comments and tactics are rather harsh and unecessary. Most children simply grow out of the habit in time before it harms their dental development.
