Oomph-less people, what do you do?

All my life I've had low energy. Not no energy, not chronic illness, and I'm generally well. I've just never had a lot of oomph. You know people who are always up and about and moving? Picture someone who likes sitting in a chair and reading quietly.

What can I do to perk myself up a bit?

What’s your diet like?
what exercise do you do?
children?

are you…. Happy?

Rallentanda · 26/08/2025 15:13

Empty nester, diet good, I do weights and yoga, and I'm quite happy.

My point is, this is just me: I was like this as a child. Like my system is set to low-key somehow. And occasionally needs a push.

But if you exercise quite a bit (and work?) it sounds like you’re doing a decent job of doing stuff despite low energy?

Sweetmelonff · 26/08/2025 15:22

Weight loss drugs can often result in low energy as your food intake may be too low?

WhatWouldJeevesDo · 26/08/2025 15:28

What is your problem? That you think you’re missing out? And on what?

Maybe a partner of some sort who pushes you to do things would help, but you’d have to prime them to know what sort of things.

Some sort of club or volunteer group where you would feel a sense of belonging might help.

Are you working full time?

Primespace · 26/08/2025 15:31

Is I that you have less oomph or that you have less oomph than the bits you see of other people.

I run loads, as well as other exercose classes, I volunteer and do pretty well in my career. People probably look at me and think I'm one of those "amazing" people who's always on the go.anf can achieve anything.

But, I'm equally capable of wasting a whole weekend doomscrolling, but no one sees that.

I'm the same. I was never sporty, always preferred sitting with my head in a book.
The only thing that livens me up is having a dog. Even then my preference is for a very calm, quiet, low energy breed, but it gets me out, gives me a moderate level of fitness.

Just realised it’s probably my ADHD, which - idiot - I often forget to factor in. (FFS.)

I thought ADHD was the opposite - high energy and not being able to sit still...

There are broadly, two categories, hyperactivity, and inattentiveness.

My mother is the hyper type and can't sit still or relax and has to be constantly doing things. Even if waiting 60 seconds will make a task easier and quicker she can't wait. He has no impulse control either.

I'm the inattentive type. I'm also very similar to OP. Lower energy and it takes me a long time to get things done as I constantly lose focus and get distracted. A 5 min task can take me over an hour. Getting up, showered, dried and dressed takes me 90 mins most days.

It can be, but I’ve got inattentive type. Dreamy, disorganised, busy in the head: the brain is where the it lives, not the body. I’ve always managed to compensate for it but it’s exhausting. And you get crashes of energy. Frustrating to forget that and start a thread about it 🤦🏻‍♀️
