Lightheadedness/Dizziness and Headaches

SLH2727 · 30/05/2008 20:08

I have been suffering from lightheadedness for sometime and quite bad headaches. CT scans have ruled out anything serious and now docs think I may have cluster headaches.

I am also very stressed and suffer from anxiety, made worse by thinking the headaches and dizziness is something serious.

Does anyone else suffer from almost constant lightheadedness/dizziness?

Many thanks.

Yes I do - or have done since last December. Might it be Labyrnthitis (Inner Ear Virus). That usually comes on suddenly and can last for quite a while apparently - altough more usually it clears in 6 weeks.

Also, have you had your thyroid function checked? I have an underactive thyroid and sometimes that can give me headaches and lightheadedness if I get the replacement dose wrong (which compounds/confuses the labrynthitis problem.

My SIL has been experieincing this since October. The gp FINALLY gave her some migraine tablets for it which made her feel better in 20 minutes. She said it was amazing but for some reason they didnt beleive it was migraine. Actually you could be my SIL with the symptoms you describe, including the anxiety etc. I did actually think you were my sil.

Blood pressure? High and low I think, could cause this. Diabetes? Often undiagnosed. Do you get thirsts too?
But SLK, I also know that anxiety and worry is a certain cause of exaserbating this obviously. Don't get worried, there are loads of reasons for feeling light headed and dizzy etc.
Hormones can do this too you too.
Apparently, perimenopause, which can start surprisingly early, can cause very strange things.
I read a brilliant article in the Guardy or Observer, about 6 months ago which I'll try and find for you tommorrow and link ( I cut out the article and it's in my studio so can't get easily now)
Anyway, it was this woman who really thought she was dying ( also very common anxiety, particularly when you have kids and are indispensible). Turned out after years of no one getting to the bottom of it, it was perimenopausal symptoms, made worse by her anxiety, but entirely treatable and non serious. Things like headaches, dizzy lifting feelings I think , racing heart, loads of horrid stuff.

It really made me feel better about my dizzy, or racing heart things.

Try magnesium and vitamin B for your anxiety, I really think it helps.

This is the article, I think:

lifeandhealth.guardian.co.uk/health/story/0,,2213281,00.html

I bookmarked it and sent it to lots of people, as it's surprising how many of us are getting these odd symptoms.

Oh Subrosa, brilliant, that was the one I meant too. I cut it out I thought it was so good, because it makes you realise how anxiety can make things so much worse.
thanks for linking.
