Singulaire - has anyone used this with their lo's and had adverse reactions?

My 2 year old recently started a course of this to clear up a persistant nighttime cough (diagnosed as asthma). She hasn't had a cough since, but has been up every night, crying and upset, to the extent that she screams the place down if she is put down. She refuses to sleep during the day, and won't get into her pushchair (where she normally has a nap). The thing is I'm not sure whether this is teething, getting over/coming down with an illness or just general toddler oddness (she is a really sensitive girl, at the best of times). She just seems really, really scared, and not herself.

Has anyone else had any problems with Singulaire or am I just trying to find something to blame?!

Hi, I'm a pharmacist and have just looked at the product license which lists these side effects-Psychiatric disorders: dream abnormalities including nightmares, hallucinations, psychomotor hyperactivity (including irritability, restlessness, agitation including aggressive behaviour, and tremor), depression, insomnia. However this does not give you any idea of the incidence of these occuring but these are reports from post-marketing information available here www.emc.medicines.org.uk. Hope this is of help I think you should speak to your g.p for further advice.

Thanks for that pipsy76. That's a pretty scary list of side effects! A couple of these were mentioned in the leaflet in the box, but it says that they are extremely rare, I wonder if anyone has experienced anything similar.

I've made an appointment to see her gp next week, but am curious to know if anyone else has seen any reaction to it.

DS2 has been on singulair for about 7 years now and has never had a problem neither has Dn either. DS was 4 and a bit when he started them - maybe it is because your lo is so young? Don't know really - it could just be a coincidence.

My son has been off and on this since he was tiny - about 1, I think (we're American and the paed version was available there before it was here). He didn't / doesn't have any adverse reactions.

My advice is to give it another week until you see your GP and see if she calms down. I have no medical background so take that into consideration if someone comes on who knows more, but that's what I'd do. I have been through the sick kids on drugs thing though. Good luck - I hope it works for you, it was a miracle drug for my son.

My son is 10 now - forgot to put that in!

Have to agrre with JJ about it being a miracle drug. DS couldn't climb the stairs without being breathless and now he is the county champion in sprinting.

Thanks for replying, maybe her changes have just been bad timing, I'm seeing the doctor tomorrow, so hopefully she will be able to help.

It just seems such a pain that after finally clearing the thing that has been disturbing her sleep for such a long time (the cough), she is having an even worse time sleeping!
