Dark mark beneath cuticle

Hello

Has anyone had anything similar to this? Or any idea what it might be?
Theres nothing on or under the nail itself it’s just on the skin beneath cuticle. You might also be able to see there is a slight discolouration on the left side of the cuticle skin too.

Not sure how long it’s been there I think it could be 6 months or more but just started worrying about it!

Thanks

It looks like a bruise. They can last up to three months in that area.

thanks for your reply.
I haven’t done anything to it though and think it’s been there too long to be a bruise. Concerned it’s at the bottom of the nail area

@Meagain24 I would get that looked at. It might (probably isn't!) be a skin cancer. I had a small very early melanoma treated last year, and when chatting the dermatologist said he sees skin cancer on hands (and under nails) quite a lot. I'm sure you aren't as old as me (looks like a youthful finger!) so it's probably unlikely. But get it seen anyway.

@RedRosie thanks for replying. Did it look anything like this? (Although I know they all look different).
I went to the gp this morning and she’s sent an image to a dermatologist. Expect it’ll need to be seen in person, but very worried as read skin cancers can start at base of nail.

You did the right thing going to get it looked at. Don't be surprised if they ask to see you in person just to have a good look. Hopefully it will be nothing of concern.

Mine was on my face actually @Meagain24 ... and looked exactly like a large freckle, just a freckle I couldn't remember seeing before. It had none of the characteristics they tell you to look for, apart from being recent. But the dermatologist looked so carefully at my hands that I asked him why, and we had that discussion.

It's probably just pigment or nothing at all. But even if it is something more, the main thing is to get it dealt with quickly. It will be treatable.
