Think I have torn meniscus

Does anyone have any experience of this pain?
I woke up with a sore knee yesterday. The only thing that I think could have caused it was a stretch I did late evening after a full day of walking. From my online diagnosis, I have torn a meniscus outside side of my knee.
I am in agony, can barely walk (although I did walk across the park slowly yesterday which seems to have made it worse)
The online NHS advice is to do the rest, gentle load and ice rather than seek medical advice. Does anyone have any experience of how painful it can be and what to do?

This happened to me in April. It was excruciating, but the pain became manageable after a couple of weeks. It still isn't quite healed but it only hurts when I stand up after being sat down for a while, or when I straighten it fully.

Ice and co-codamol helped me a lot at the initial stage.

I will say though, you need a lot of force at an awkward angle to tear your meniscus. I'm skeptical a stretch could do it.

The NHS site says in older people (which is over 40 and I’m 45) it can just happen!

You'd normally know about tearing a meniscus the moment it happened....

If you went to bed with a painless knee and were woken up by a painful one, id be thinking more like gout or pseudogout, or other inflammatory artropathy.

It did hurt when I went to bed but not so much as it does 48 hours later. It’s a very specific stabbing pain when I move leg from
side to side. I can hobble forward but not rotate outwards and the pain is on the outside of my knee.
Not swollen or any redness.

I have tore my meniscus on both knees in separate incidents admittedly both times running but they just went no traumatic event just ping like an elastic band going I did feel it though in my knee when I did it
Both times I was pretty close to the end of my run and could carry on but within half an hour was in agony and hobbling around . My surgeon agreed they can just go though like frayed material apparently. Was his analogy
Anyway you need to Rest it Ice it and raise it slightly when resting. .take ibuprofen Wait for any swelling to go down then go see a physio if still hurting. If it is the meniscus it is a very slow heal so be prepared for a long process and may need surgery particularly if it catches and the knee starts giving way
Sorry to hear you have done this other posters are right it may be something less minor like a sprain or over stretched tendon and I am keeping everything crossed for you it is as the meniscus is so slow to heal and potentially expensive if you need physiotherapy/surgery
